Borderlands 3 not in development
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford confirms studio not yet working on sequel to last month's stylized shooter, but expects that to change in the future.
Borderlands 3 is not in development at Gearbox Software, studio CEO Randy Pitchford said recently over Twitter. The executive dispatched a flurry of tweets that shut down the recent speculation that the studio was already at work on a sequel to last month's well-received shooter Borderlands 2.
"Chill out, Internet," Pitchford said. "No one has started working on a sequel to Borderlands 2. Clean and simple truth: the only Borderlands-related game development work going on right now is for Borderlands 2," he added.
Though Borderlands 3 is not presently in development at Gearbox, Pitchford teased that he "expects that to change at some point, adding that "it's fun to talk and think."
Gearbox is currently working on downloadable content for Borderlands 2, which will comprise at least four campaign expansions. Additionally, the company is working on Aliens: Colonial Marines, a new IP out of the ashes of Brothers in Arms: Furious 4, and possibly a Duke Nukem Forever follow-up.
What's in development in Borderlands 2 DLC.
I don't expect a new game every year, I actually appreciate that. The first two are great, currently enjoying BL2, take the time you need!
I think people are always wanting sequels, people need to chill out and play the current game first! We can't have a sequel each year, that's not sustainable!
LOL, this is not CoD.
Good, no rush!!Let me enjoy Borderlands 2 for almost 3 years just like I enjoyed the first one!!
borderlands 2 is like crack just have to shoot up daily and get that fix.
c`mon i can see a lot of vault still there in that galaxy waiting to be search. thre`s gotta be borderlands 3 , 4 ,5 ,6 , VII and more!!
PItchford denied Borderlands 2 and said that Duke Nukem Forever was going to be good...why would anyone believe him now? Or respect him at all for that matter?
Looking forward to Aliens: Colonial Marines, while warming myself up by play Borderlands 2 without even touching the first. And damn ain't it a treat.
Amazing how damn near everyone in this thread has no clue that game developers often overlap projects as a matter of routine. This is particularly true with sequels for established series.
That doesn't mean they're developing both games full speed ahead, but they can put a few artists/writers on it just to stay ahead of the game. I'm sure Gearbox will get around to it after they release their first couple DLCs.
shantd I wish people had an ''internet guardian'', someone who says: nah ah ah... *then proceeds to correct the person.
Right when I saw the headline, I though this is comepletely ridiculous and it's probably written by... yep, I knew it.
Uh... WHY WOULD IT BE ? This is disgusting that sequels are expected every year or two.
salvucci91
Don't worry, it's just Eddie Makuch looking to fill a spot on the Gamespot article rundown thingy.
Borderlands 2 just come out. There is only 1 announced DLC that hasn't even come out yet and there are a minimum of 3 others coming after that. It's a given that there will be a Borderlands 3 but come on. Let Gearbox finish with Borderlands 2 first before they start going down that road.
69ingChimpmunks Minimum of 4 DLC's as the Mechromancer isn't one of the 4 included in the season pass.
Um... did anyone really expect BL3 to already be in development? It's not like we're talking about Call of Duty, which copy-pastes new sequels like clockwork.
gmromero unfortunately, that's pretty accurate.
It's a little early to ask for a BORDERLANDS 3 just after BL2 came out, LOL.
Gearbox have DLC planned as they are selling $30 passes and aren't done with those DLC expansions.
Plus, Gearbox will announce their upcoming projects ON THEIR schedule, not when some nosey reporter wants a scoop for Oct 3rd Wednesday, or some dumbass fans on twitter want to be twits and bug them for news, lolol.
SolidTy
Don't be surprised by anything written by this guy.
Back off you animals, it won't make them develop it faster!
Good lord, lets enjoy number 2 and not worry about something that may or may not happen!
mdboomer I know I sure am and can't wait for the DLC, especially want to try out the mechromancer :D.
How can Borderlands 3 be in the development when they haven't released a single DLC for the current game yet?
I haven't played BL2.
ztron370 I advise you to fix that.
ztron370 if you played the first one and enjoyed it you will enjoy borderlands 2
Duh...2nd one just came out.
Most likely their in pre production phase, planning and researching than later designing which will then move into the production phase, but he's right its not in production yet.
This was one of the longest single player FPS games I've played in a while, especially for a co-op game, I'm not that impatient and I'm pretty sure most people aren't that bad either.
Of course they haven't started Borderlands 3 yet.. they just released Borderlands 2, and most dev teams will take a break after release since they'll have worked extra long hours up to the point of release. Now they take a break, work on some DLC and then they get to work on the next one.
Geez, I'd hate to hear that they were working on another game when this one's only just come out...
The_Mighty_KELP Yeah, I mean they're not Capcom or anything.
And this is news because...?
codeman101360 Gamespot needs to justify employing so many jornalists.
Ov course they aren't started on BL3 yet.....if they had started already all the warnings would have gone off....Milked Franchise Alert Detected!!
I get a lot of these actually.......
i want a DLC like the zombie island of DR . Ned and a one like knoxxx or what ever but i can tell borderlands 3 WILL happen.
All in good time...and after they figure out what the hell they did to the assault rifles in Borderlands 2. Haven't found a good one yet. ~sigh~
This headline is irrelevant.
danmanpro Seriously. It's completely misleading.
Borderlands 3 Long time may be to next gen.
Wahab_MinSeo Microsoft and Sony better release their next gen consoles sometime in the next two years. This generation of gaming has worn out its' welcome.
comb5Will I heard a lot of news in 2013-2014 about the next generation consoles , Gameplay , Graphics & Physics is very important and enjoy.Technology is going upYour Welcome to you too my friend.
Main word being, "yet"....
I like how something not happening is newsworthy.
We just got outstanding game delivered, Creative process takes time.....so let them take time:D
I still don't understand who would be dumb enough to think they were already working on BL3. There are four planned DLCs for BL2 and I don't think they've even started on those.
Agree with TrueGB, still bordelands 2 dlc work in pregress.........its true Borderlands 3 coming in future becoz its big profitable project for Gearbox and 2k games
Heck, they're still not finished developing Borderlands 2. And it's fine by me if we don't see another Borderlands for a while. Enjoying 2 but I could have used another year to renew the fire. Let's back off and wait a few years.
What they really need to do now is deliver a proper Duke Nuke'em game.
Good. This isnt COD.
