Have some new Castlevania: LOS - Mirror of Fate screens

You know, I've just come to accept that Nintendo doesn't feel like making a new Metroid any time soon. Maybe they're just not ready. But Konami has us covered with the next best thing: a brand-new 3D/2D Castlevania in the form of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate. They brought the 3DS title to gamescom this week, and released some screenshots and concept art along with it.

I have to say that Mirror of Fate is looking like it'll be one of the best looking games on the system (based off what I can see from the screenshots, of course). If not that, it has an amazing art direction going for it, which you can see in the concept art shots in the gallery below.  I'm also assuming it'll have that classic Castlevania formula to make this game a must-have whenever it releases. Hopefully soon? Like, really soon? I could really go for a Metroidvania game right now.

Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)

I am hijacking a friends 3ds for a stroll in this castle...
MOST DEF!!!
Calling this a classic castlevania game is a hell of an assumption to make based on some screenshots. More than likely it'll be a sidescrolling Lords of Shadow and no one will be happy.
Hope this comes out good, though I'm still not sure about this new direction. Order of Ecclesia and Dawn of Sorrow were pretty good.

I want a new 2D Metroid so bad, I really hope one hits the 3DS.
Yeah this looks more like a level select Castlevania than a giant Metroid type map one. I really just want a Metroid Other M type game on 3ds, minus the Team Ninja.
Art direction looks great to bad the game doesn't give off that feeling.
I'm pretty sure it's been confirmed that this isn't a Metroidvania.
Like what Keith said, everybody including the developer has said this game will not be a Metroidvania. So, uh, Brett's gonna be pretty disappointed.
From what I understood, it's basically going to be a lot like Lords of Shadow, but with a bit more emphasis on exploration. I don't think there will be much stuff to find outside the requisite upgrades similar to LoS though, so it'd be a stretch to call this a true Metroidvania.

It's more of a side-scrolling action platformer with some Metroidvania elements thrown in.

I'll get it, and I think I'll like it overall... but man do I hate that they've abandoned the old lore and gameplay.
NOOOOOOOOOOO my world has been shattered by everyone telling me it's not gonna be what I thought it was. :(
That header is fucking awesome.

Also, a new 3DS 2D Metroid needs to happen. <<<Ironic notion, 2D on a 3D console. See wut I did ther? K.
the gameplay looks like shit, nothing compared to SOTN :(
... Despite producer David Cox's repeatedly saying that this was not a Metroidvania title. How many times does this have to be hammered into people's skulls?
No more fucking Metroidvania's. Jesus Christ, gamers for the most part are such stale individuals. Give me Metroidvania, give me old school Final Fantastic, blah blah blah. Just shut up already and accept the fact that not EVERY game company in this industry wants to do the same shit over and over again.
Why does it seem like the 3DS has no AA?
I'll still get it, looks like a decent 3DS game.

I like the metroidvania style because it enhances exploration and lengthens gameplay, going back to an earlier level/area where there were things I couldnt get the first time is just fun. That isnt stale, that's wanting more out of your videogame than 5-hours of gameplay and running the same thing on a higher difficulty.
Mercury Stream is pretty much against giving traditional fans what they want, so this isn't going to a Metroidvania or even classic CV, just more of their story-driven God of War-inspired wank.

If that's what you're looking for, I'd suggest looking into Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion on 3DS or Guacamelee on PS3/Vita in the future.
"If a Metroidvania is what you want..." I mean.
