The Arcade Flyer Archive (TAFA) is a digital repository for advertisement flyers that are used by the coin-operated amusement industry to promote the sales of its games. Over time flyers represent much more than a marketing brochure. They capture a unique blend of the industry's history, graphic design trends and advertising campaigns. Most importantly, they bring out the nostalgia of countless people who have grown up with the culture of video games, pinball machines and arcade games. Unique cabinet designs, attractive artwork and real screen shots -- all of which represent the visual language of coin-operated games, make flyers sought after items for collectors and effective tools for restoring games to their original factory specifications.

Our History

Before TAFA, there were two web sites: The Mame Flyer/Poster Archive (TMF/PA) and Arcade Nostalgia. The TMF/PA web site was founded by Gerard Maathuis and dedicated to releasing Flyer Packs for the MAME™ and RAINE video game emulators. Arcade Nostalgia was founded by Eric Jacobson that showcased a unique image viewer allowing users to browse his flyer collection.

Gerard was impressed with Eric's image viewer and they collaborated to integrate it into TMF/PA. The viewer displayed thumbnail images of the MAME™ Flyer Packs and eventually displayed full size images of the flyers. As a result the two sites merged into one and was christened The Arcade Flyer Archive.

1999 - 2004

TAFA went live on the eve of the new millennium, December 31, 1999. In 2001 an avid flyer collector named Dan Hower became a major contributor. Dan's contributions created such a back log that he was given the priviledge to upload and submit his flyer images to the site directly. Today Dan's flyer collection makes up almost 50% of the archive. Sadly, Gerard stepped down from TAFA at the end of 2004 to pursue other interests.

2005 - present

Dan and Eric relaunched TAFA with a new web site design in June 2006. The following year pinball machine flyers and arcade game flyers were added and the new logo and tagline were also unveiled: Remember the Games. Feel the Nostalgia.
