Nintendo sets Wii U price, unveils TVii

Wii play around for Thursday's Nintendo news roundup:

Nintendo announced that its new Wii U game console will be available in the U.S. on Nov. 18, coming in two flavors. The white "Basic" bundle is $300 and comes with a GamePad and Wii U with 8 GB of memory. But it makes more sense to pick up the $350 black "Deluxe" bundle, which includes a 32 GB Wii U system, charger, stand and Nintendo Land. Nintendo Land is a pack of 12 mini games which use the GamePad and allow 5 people to play … Read more

Nintendo has sold an average of 46,000 Wii Remotes every day since the Wii's launch in November 2006, the company announced yesterday.

About 30.41 million of those units were bundled with the Wii, while 12.92 million Wii Remotes came in the Wii Play bundle. Nintendo has sold 18.56 million individual white Wii Remotes and 2.44 million black versions of the controller. Lego's controller bricks your Wii in a good way

There's playing with Lego bricks, and there's playing Lego video games, but now with the Lego "play and build" remote game controller there's a mix of the two. The $40 controller, which is a Toys "R" Us exclusive made by Power A, has all your standard Wii buttons and the built-in speaker, with the addition of a rumble motor.

So what's the big deal then? Both the face and the battery cover of the controller are ready to accept your Lego pieces. You can add any of your own pieces, or use … Read more

iPhone 4 details and more

iPhone 4. A few surprises but mostly what we expected: front-facing camera, HD video recording and editing, flash, multi-tasking, video calling, and a new body.

No big surprises but technology lovers are still very excited about it all, myself included. I've been getting a little bored with my iPhone lately and feeling very tempted by Android phones, particularly the HTC Evo.

This afternoon's edition of Loaded has a brief summary of all things Stevenote. If you want more, we will break the keynote into several bits over the next 24 hours so you can watch it at your … Read more

PowerV Duo juices two Wiimotes, other gadgets

Charging Wiimotes wrapped in their thick rubber jackets has always been a hassle for most Nintendo Wii owners. You could either strip off the overlay each time you recharge the batteries or go with Konnet's PowerV Duo, which utilizes induction technology to juice up the power cells.

Users just have to drop the remote, with or without the jacket, onto either of the two docks to get started. As a bonus, there are two overhead USB ports for other gadgets like your mobile phone, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 controllers.

As a side note, the $35 PowerV Duo at … Read more

The 404 535: Where we're raising money for Sex.com (podcast)

Natali Del Conte is back from a quick trip to Europe and will be on the show every Thursday to get down with the nerdy dirty. We're hoping that she'll also help us raise $1,000,000 for a bid on Sex.com. The domain has a rich history of ownership and even spurned a book based on its popularity. The site originally belonged to Gary Kremen, founder of Match.com, then changed hands for 14 million dollars to a company called Escom, and is up for auction next month as part of a foreclosure deal. We each have our own ideas about what we would do with it, but we can all get into the idea of broadcasting the Official Sex.com Podcast. If nothing else, the SEO would work much better than The 404.

Rock Band 3 has already been confirmed for the 2010 holiday season, but fans of the franchise can get their Gaga on next week singing the pop star's hit singles "Bad Romance," "Just Dance," "Monster," and "Poker Face." Being the unabashed Lady Gaga fan that I am, I'm obviously ecstatic, but since I don't personally own a gaming console, the best solution would be for YOU to buy it, send me a Twitter message with your address, and I'll be there within the hour. See you soon!

While we're on my favorite topic of conversation, Sony deserves a mention for unveiling its new PS3 motion controller called Move at this year's Game Developers Conference. Phallic though it may appear, the light on top of the handheld device apparently serves a purpose, although you'll have to listen to Jeff's explanation to get the full story, because I'm still scratching my head. Sony hopes that the move will gain popularity among both casual and hardcore gamers, with games that let players simulate sword fights, bows and arrows, guns, and more. You can purchase a Move starter kit this fall that includes the controller, a PlayStation eye camera, and a game all for less than $100. More details to follow!

A very special thanks to 404 listener Bernard in Ottawa for sending us one of the best voice mails we've ever played on Calls From the Public. He calls in reference to Monday's discussion about "Legend of the Guardians," aka Owl Movie, and his delivery has Jeff in tears. It's so good, in fact, that we posted it online for you to hear, so check it out!

Robot band stars Wiimote-wielding frontman

In what may be a precursor to the hippie/robot showdown we've always hoped for, musician Patrick Flanagan has founded Jazari, a three-piece robotic drum circle with some impressive grooves. If that's not fun enough, it's all controlled by two Wiimotes.

Last week we looked at Marv, a robotic vibraphone that banged out an impressive rendition of "Flight of the Bumblebee." This week's robotunes come courtesy of an ensemble.

Flanagan wields two Wiimotes to control the rhythm, volume, and pitch of the three different drums. The D-pad determines which part of the drum is … Read more

WiiWaa: Fun for kids, coma for animal controller

Wiimote gone missing? You might want to check inside that orange and purple stuffed monster in your kid's room. If Bobby's been playing the interactive game WiiWaa, he had to shove the controller down the monster's throat. The player bounces and slingshots the little guy around as an onscreen version moves in kind across a colorful landscape of forests and bridges. It's a cute concept, but we feel kind of bad for the puppet who's forced to swallow a gadget and then get shaken into a stupor.

WiiWaa is a creation of Swedish game developer … Read more
