Saturn classic NiGHTS gets HD remake for Xbox Live Arcade

Achievement support, new visuals, leaderboards

What is this, wish fulfilment day? SEGA has just announceda HD remake of Saturn classic NiGHTS into dreams... (yes, that's genuinely the full title) for Xbox Live Arcade release this autumn/winter. The remake will support leaderboards and Achievements, a 16:9 screen ratio and the option re-enable 1996 visuals, should your nostalgia get the better of you.

"The SEGA Saturn offered many unique gaming experiences, and NiGHTS into dreams... stands out as one of the most recognizable titles that found a home on the system," commented Chris Olson, Vice President of Digital Business at SEGA. "We've gotten a lot of requests about this game over the years, and are very happy to be able to give both former Saturn owners and new players a chance to play it in its most beautiful form to date this fall."

I was wondering that myself, would love to see Christmas Nights in to Dreams return :).

  6. Awesome. Let's see some more Saturn greats like Clockwork Knight, Die Hard Arcade and Snatcher get ports as well.

  7. YES!

That is all, save for a vague hope that they also release the full three Shining Force III scenarios onto Arcade as well. And Panzer Dragoon Saga. Please.

  8. all we need now is Virtua Cop, with Child of Eden Kinect controls :)

  9. Hmm. I await this to see how good it is now, in the cold light of 2012. It was a game I was very fond of back when the Saturn was a big deal. With hindsight, it just looks like an on-rails acrobatics game which was glossed over with some fancy graphics (for the time). An ambitious project at the time, no doubt, but I am not convinced it will translate into a stellar experience now.

Nostalgia hunters will no doubt love revisiting the title, but I don't think I'll be playing it and thinking that I have rediscovered one of the real gems of gaming history.
