GAME summit WAS positive, insists suppliers

We're not GAME's personal bodyguards, we are reporting on delicate trade subjects. And this meeting is still relevant. GAME was compelled to bring all its suppliers together for a rare briefing all in the room at once to lay out its strategy for the next month or two. Protecting the sources and confidential data prevents me from saying any more specific - but what happened is still *massively* relevant, whether EA's credit insurers got cold feet or not. Yes, things change, but sometimes they change for the better, too. It was only after this meeting that the Ubisoft Vita games started appearing in stores.

Revealed: The REAL size of the UK games market

Joseph - I see what you're saying. But if GAME has - for instance - 30% market share, then shaving £773m off of £3.3bn is pretty severe. I put it to you, sir, that you just have it in for GAME a bit ;) Simon - I'll try and find out.

OPINION: GAME lives to fight another day

At no point did I say that people will still buying games. And when I say 'less games released' - I mean even less boxed games. I should really say 'less games than ever' because we're already on a downward trend of less games appearing on the market, in boxes at least. (It's probably, digital market included, the case that there are more games released year on year, but less and less are heading into shops.) I personally still find spite towards the High Street amongst a certain set in the games industry very curious - it's a deeply integrated part of the eco-system (for want of a better, less hateful phrase), and it vanishing *would* cause serious knock-on effects.

UKIE toasts Young Apprentice success

I wouldn't read into Nintendo not being there - I don't think Microsoft or Sony made it, either. It was filmed in August, when a lot of people would've been away, etc.

ANALYSIS: Dark Souls and the core gamer

Fair points. I guess, yes, the key here is that there are shades of 'coreness' as you put it. And right now, even though all the traditional market is pointing towards core offerings in general (even Nintendo's big game this year is Zelda) the corest-of-the-core, if you will, are underserved and have been for some time. Either that or a game like Dark Souls is an exception to the core rule - it's such a discriminating game, no one is playing or persisting with it through love or passion (which is what dives core fans). This is for masochists.

OPINION: Call of Duty remains top dog

I was really only making a broad comment about the overall aesthetics/feeling to get to my bigger point about the two franchise's so-called 'battle' in 2011. (BTW - if you don't play either, why do you assert for a fact that MW is 'rubbish'? ;)
