Dhaka, Apr 2 (bdnews24.com) – Bangladesh received remittance of $9.5 billion in the first nine months (July-March) of the current financial year which is 9.02 per cent higher than that of the same period of the last financial year.

Bangladeshis working abroad sent remittances worth over $ 8.598 billion during the same period last year.

"This is due to various steps taken by the central bank to bring remittance through banking channel," Bangladesh Bank governor Atiur Rahman told bdnews24.com on Monday expressing satisfaction over the positive trend of remittance inflow.

"We hope this trend will continue rest of the year."

He also hoped that the total remittance inflow would stand at $13 billion at the end of the financial year.

Remittance inflow in the last fiscal was $11.56 billion.

The higher inflow of remittance has helped the foreign currency reserve go up.

The reserve dipped to $9.2 billion in March after Bangladesh made two months' import payments of $900 million to Asian Clearing Union.

The foreign currency reserve stood at $9.65 billion on Monday.

The expatriate Bangladeshis sent remittance worth over $ 1.1 billion in March this year, which was nearby $1 billion during the same period last year.

The record remittance of $1.22 billion came in January this year.
