Business ventures and commercial enterprises
on Aboriginal land range from general stores serving the community,
film companies spending a few weeks in an area, to a variety of
industries involving mining, tourism, fishing, pastoral and harvesting
activities.
A number of Aboriginal communities are using their
land to develop economic opportunities. In some cases, the enterprise
is wholly or partly owned or managed by Aboriginal interests.
Aboriginal organisations have established tourism
activities and enterprises such as crocodile egg harvesting, pet
meat operations, feral buffalo mustering and feral pig harvesting.
In other instances, Aboriginal communities have made
agreements such as land use agreements, special purpose agreements,
joint venture agreements and lease arrangements with non-Aboriginal
business enterprises.
