When Ubisoft released Rayman Origins for consoles last year, it brought back one of its longest running franchises in a fresh new mold, one that all gamers could appreciate, from its classic platforming set-up to its gorgeous presentation, which makes it resemble a Saturday morning cartoon brought to life.  Somehow, Ubisoft has managed to cram almost every bit of goodness from the original game into on-the-go play for the PlayStation Vita – and that’s the primary reason why it’s a must-own.

If something’s good enough, you know someone will bring it back in one form or another.  For Sega, this is a common business practice, as it’s been bringing back several of its old-school franchise to the current game scene, in an effort to generate newfound success.  This includes a number of resurrected Dreamcast classics, along with the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise and Virtua Fighter, which will come back this summer with Final Showdown on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.  Now another big game is coming back, and Professor K fans will want to listen up…

Who doesn’t want to be a ninja?  Don’t sit there and tell me you’ve never dreamed of the day of being insane enough to throw stars at objects with utmost accuracy, or get the sneak-up on someone from behind to subdue them.  Well, very few games these days make you truly feel like a ninja, since the Tenchu series has fallen by the wayside.  To make up for this, Namco Bandai has brought in Acquire, Tenchu's development team, to produce Shinobido 2: Revenge of Zen to the PlayStation Vita, giving gamers the opportunity to go all ninja-like with a vengeful assassin named, well, Zen.

Yesterday, EA released a new trailer for Mass Effect 3, and if that wasn't enough, released an extended version of the trailer earlier today. Amongst all of the trailers, a little bit of news snuck in regarding the highly-anticipated 3rd entry in the franchise. On March 6, PS3 owners will have the option of buying the game on Blu-ray or download it directly to their console.

Am I the only one who truly appreciated the maniacal genius that David Jaffe and his team brought to Twisted Metal Black like a decade ago?  Sure, the storyline was much more twisted, and the darker M-rated approach was quite the jolt for those who expected something along the lines of the original PS One games, but I thought it was a change for the better, with a lot more at stake and concentrated car combat like only Jaffe can provide.  I’m sure there are fans out there who appreciate it as much as I do, and they’re the probably the ones who will get a kick out of the reboot that just arrived on PlayStation 3.

Sony is giving one of its classic game franchises a high definition makeover with the Jak and Daxter Collection. Developer Mass Media worked with Naughty Dog on this project to deliver a highly polished re-mastered collection of the classic action adventure game franchise. Naughty Dog founders Evan Wells, Jason Rubin and Andrew Gavin look back at the franchise in the video below.

Last year at E3, Ubisoft surprised us with a vacation gone awry in a little game called Far Cry 3. The trailer depicts an island being ruled over by a psychopathic regime, and your only means of escape are by taking the fight back to them and let the guns do the talking. Now a new gameplay trailer has emerged, displaying how big a fight it is to escape the island and how explosive some of the moments can be.

Once again, Naughty Dog has done a little more digging in the vault to bring forth some oldies but goodies in terms of multiplayer maps for Uncharted 3. Tomorrow will see the release of 4 of your favorite maps from Uncharted 2 to add a little bit of variety to all of your multiplayer needs. Naughty Dog released a trailer for the upcoming maps, as well as hint at a brand new game mode coming soon.

Finally.  We played it at several events for the past few months now, and sent Vblank Entertainment countless emails regarding its release.  We’ve spent hours dreaming of running over folks in 8-bit looking cars and creating all kinds of chaos with superheroes and other strange characters.  And now, it looks like Retro City Rampage, the independent darling that’s been making waves for the past couple of years, is finally coming home.  The team has announced that it’s finally arriving this May, just in time for summer – and it’s coming to more than just one console.

As good a distraction as Transformers: Dark of the Moon was on Xbox 360 and PS3 last year, it just didn’t measure up to the monstrosity that came out a year before, the boldly original War For Cybertron.  Featuring a great new storyline, thrilling action and strong multiplayer, the game was a must for fans of Hasbro’s long-running franchise.  High Moon Studios recognizes this, and recently invited us down to Las Vegas to get a first glimpse at the upcoming sequel, Fall of Cybertron, which is introducing some bigger players into the picture – literally.

If you’re a fan of Valve games, then you’re probably pretty loyal to their brand.  However, it never hurts to stray out there and find something equally inspired by their lunacy.  In this case, Warp, a game made by Trapdoor Interactive and published by Electronic Arts, the first of Microsoft’s four-game House Party group.  It definitely has its moments of lunacy, though some of them may be too much for amateur players to bear.

You know, if Roger Corman were still alive today, he’d probably approve a game like Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack.  Featuring a character that resembles the one from the Steve McQueen film (but with more personality and a slight bit amount of less substance), you control this little being as he works his way through a series of intricately designed stages, devouring whatever he can while avoiding imminent death from surrounding dangers.  It’s a platformer that beckons for the old-school crowd, and probably one of the best purchases you could make for your PlayStation Vita when it releases wide next week.

Razer is a manufacturer that’s never shied away from making quality technology, and it certainly knows how to work with game companies in partnerships, like LucasArts with Star Wars: The Old Republic and Electronic Arts with Battlefield 3 and Dragon Age: Origins.  But this latest deal with not only EA but also Bioware could pay off, as they’re working with the companies on exclusive goods featuring the Mass Effect 3 brand.  If you ever wanted to feel like you’re controlling Commander Shepard, these are must-haves.

With sequels, more often than not you see developers stick to the same old strategy.  But there are some who push for a change, like a new lead character or a storyline that expands on what the original provided.  Darksiders II, a game slated for release this summer, immediately comes to mind, and with that, so should Prototype 2, the follow-up to Activision’s crazy open-world action/adventure.  Radical Entertainment is just about ready to unleash this long awaited follow-up to the public, and we got a close look at what to expect.
