AZIZ BAGH VILLA

A Palladian Villa located in a large compound with well maintained grounds and traditional features like a Kabootar Khana, Aziz Bagh was built at the turn of the 20th Century by Aziz Jang Vila, a famous poet, in Persian and Urdu. The building is described as Indo-German in style. The villa has been consciously conserved as a total environment where the life-style of the owners slips easily into the heritage structure.

BHAGWANDAS PAVILION

The pavilion located in the Bhagwandas Garden is a two storeyed structure in wood, raised on a high platform. It is one of the surviving examples of a genre of architecture, which has now almost disappeared. The typical wooden pavilion resembles Tipu Sultan’s summer palace at Srirangapatnam in Karnataka. The arches are essentially cusped. The wooden columns, the canopies, the window projections are in later Mughal and Rajasthani style. The intimacy of scale, the perfection of wooden carvings and the fine proportions elevate them to rare architectural specimens.

GYAN BAGH PALACE

Built in the middle of the 19th Century, it is perhaps the only major palace complex in the City which is preserved for its original use by the same family in the same setting. It consists of two palatial structures in white marble connected by a colonnade. The exteriors of the building are in Palladian style. There are two formal courtyards with gardens, one in front of the main building and the other between the two buildings. A number of statues dot the landscape. Thus the owners have preserved the total environment.

MILITARY REFORMATORY, TRIMULGHERRY

The reformatory was constructed in the 1870s as a jail for the British Indian Army. Its cellular form recalls the famous Andaman Jail also built during the British period of Indian History. Its long corridors and verandahs, its austere cells and its execution chamber communicate a sense of awe mingled with respect. The building has both historic and architectural significance. It is maintained in excellent condition by the Indian Army.

TRINITY CHURCH, BOLARUM

The Trinity Church is a medium sized Victorian Gothic style church, constructed in the mid-nineteenth century near Secunderabad. The low-roof and stained glass windows give the visitors a feeling of a country church in England. The exterior and the interior, as well as the cemetery that is attached to the Church are well maintained. The church is in regular use by members of the Medak Diocese of the Church of South India.
