The Dolua Army, led by the Mamcoot Medeus, has invaded the nation of Altea. Prince Marth escapes with his most loyal followers and must fight his way across the continent, recruiting new members and bring peace back to the world.
Take turns between your army and the enemy forces. Enemy battles take place automatically and victory depends on how strong the fighting characters are. Gain experience during battles and upgrade each character's weapons to stand a better chance. Lead Marth to the door of each castle to win.
If a character falls in battle then they are gone for good, but if Marth is defeated then your game is over and you must restart the map.
The SNES sequel Mystery of the Emblem came in two parts, or "Books". Book 1 was a remake of the first Fire Emblem game, featuring updated graphics and sound. Book 2 continues the story many years later.
