Freedom of Information - advice

The local authority provides information on the Freedom of Information Act and advises citizens how to request public information an authority may hold.


Freedom of Information Act logoThe Freedom of Information Act 2004 came into force on 1 January 2005.

The effect of this is that written requests for information must be responded to within 20 working days of receipt, and the response must comply with the terms of the Act.

 

Scarborough Borough Council's approach to managing the information requests is described in the Code of Practice below.

 

The Council adopted the Code of Practice at their Cabinet meeting on 21 December 2004.


Publication Scheme

The publication scheme of Scarborough Borough Council is a list of those classes of information which the Council is making available to the public as a matter of course, and is part of the Council's commitment to open government.

  • Consider what information you are seeking
  • Check to see if the information is included in the Publication Scheme
  • If so, contact the Council as described in the Publication Scheme
  • If not, submit a request in writing to foi@scarborough.gov.uk, including in your request your name, an address for correspondence, a clear description of the information requested and the appropriate fee (if any).


Review

If you are unhappy with the way in which your request for information has been dealt with you can ask for the decision to be reviewed under the Council’s Complaints Process.
