The Nordic Africa Institute publishes five publication series. The publications are either available in pdf format and can be downloaded for free or can be ordered Print on Demand. Monographs and anthologies are published in cooperation with academic publishers of high standing.

The authors attempt to answer the question and find that the interest of foreign investors and African governments stands in stark contrast to the needs of the smallholders and rural population in Africa. The theme of NAI’s Annual Report 2010 reflects the impressive economic growth and encouraging political developments in many parts of the continent. However, in terms of democracy and human rights there are also worrying signs in several countries. The Annual Report offers a window on to NAI’s work. Drawing on their research, NAI scholars provide readers with engaging stories about the rapidly changing political, economic and social character of African societies.

African writers presented in new book

AFRICA/HAS/THE/FLOOR
To coincide with last year's Göteborg Book Fair which focused on African literature, NAI published "Afrika har ordet". The book has now been translated into English entitled "Africa has the floor". The book contains pictures of and biographical notes on all the African authors who visited the book fair. The introduction is by NAI director Carin Norberg, the biographical notes are by Anita Theorell, while Henning Mankell and Véronique Tadjo have written their personal reflections.

Zangbeto: Navigating Between the Spaces of Oral Art, Communal Security and Conflict Mediation in Badagry, Nigeria, by Folashade Hunsu. Discussion Paper No. 53.

This Discussion Paper critically examines Zangbeto, a highly revered society, among the Egun people in the town of Badagry, near the city of Lagos, in south west Nigeria, that have creatively re-invented tradition to serve multiple purposes. Its shows how Zangbeto has in the context of economic crisis and challenges linked to urban growth, adapted its roles to include communal policing, conflict mediation, oral art and entertainment, and the maintenance of communal order.
