In the wild the little baby elephants are being brought up with love and care by their mother and by their allo-mother, an 'aunt' from the herd. This care is essential for the baby elephant whilst growing up. If a baby elephant is left without a mother or herd it is bound to die within 24 hours, unless it is saved.
Friends of the Elephant supports the Elephant Transit Home in Sri Lanka, who take in orphaned elephants, take care of them and guide them on their return to nature. Fosterparents can make this possible with their financial support.
Becoming a foster parent? For €60,- per year you can give a baby elephant a new future. With the foster contributions the care, medication, accommodation, food and drink are being paid. You may choose of wich elephant you would like to become a fosterparent.
As foster parent every year you will receive a certificate, a personal Elephantpas, a photo of the elephant, a video film and every quarter a letter with the latest news. This way you stay up to date of the developments and you can follow the elephant growing up. Besides that you receive the magazine 'The Elephant' every quarter, because as a fosterparent you are a Friend as well.
