Sunnyvale Police Investigate Gruesome Discovery

Officers were investigating a dead body that was found stuffed into a large garbage bag in a Sunnyvale neighborhood overt the weekend, according to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.

The bag, which was tucked between two bushes next to the sidewalk in the 800 block of Ticonderoga Drive, was reported to the department at about 10 a.m. Sunday, Capt. Dave Verbrugge said.

Blood appeared to be coming out of the loosely cinched bag, and when officers peered inside they saw part of the body, he said.

The Santa Clara County Crime Lab and the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office also responded to the scene and took custody of the body.

An autopsy was being performed Monday to determine the gender of the victim and cause of death, Verbrugge said.

The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office had not released any information as of Monday morning.

Anyone with details about the body was asked to call the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety at (408) 730-7110. Those who wish to remain anonymous can provide information by sending an email to SVTIP@tipnow.org.
