Invitation to Antiques for Everyone

Glass Association members please email for a complimentary ticket to the Antiques for Everyone event being held at the NEC from 21st to 24th July 2011. With more than 300 specialist dealers exhibiting over 100,000 items the fair, which is now in its 26th year, offers collectors a huge selection of fine art and antiques. Items for sale include Georgian and Victorian furniture, fine English silver, impressive British and European works of art, highly collectable pottery and porcelain and jewellery from the past three hundred years.

Antiques for Everyone is the UK’s largest vetted fair which means items for sale are independently authenticated and verified by industry experts to ensure visitors can buy with confidence.

British Glass Foundation Charity

The British Glass Foundation charity was launched on the 24th of November 2010 at Hagley Hall, Hagley, West Midlands.

The Charity has been set up to secure the future of the glass collections and archives currently held at Broadfield House Glass Museum and Himley Hall.

Veste Coburg and Castle Rosenau Visit (Coburg, Germany)

The Glass Association is currently organising a trip to the central German town of Coburg to view the historic glass collections housed at Veste Coburg Castle (over 3500 pieces) of the Dukes of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.

National Glass Association Meeting: ‘Loch, Heather and Peat’

Saturday 12th March 2011

The Glass Association will be holding a joint meeting with Friends of Broadfield House Glass Museum - celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of Caithness Glass and highlighting the work of Domnhall O’Broin (the company’s first designer).

Broadfield House Closure: The Latest News

Feasibility Study - The Debate Continues

Earlier this year a feasibility study was set up to investigate the possibility of moving the Broadfield House glass collection to the Red House Glass Cone.

Whilst this move was rejected by Dudley Council (see below) the feasibility study is still an ongoing interest, which is now looking at alternative measures to promote the glass heritage of the West Midlands.

On the 9th of December 2009 Dudley Council will be holding a cabinet meeting to consider the stage one recommendations for the glass feasibility study and discuss whether to press ahead with plans to create a single glass heritage attraction.

Issue 88 of The Cone: Broadfield House Special
