Matt Davis - Head Coach coachmatt@hudsonheat.com

 

Matt came to the HEAT, and Hudson High School, as Head Coach in 2006. He is also the city of Hudson's Aquatic Director and heads up the 4th and 5th grade East Woods Elementary PE Swim program. Coach Matt's main HEAT coaching responsibilities are with the Gold and Silver groups. Matt began his swimming career with Silver Lake County Club at the age of 8 and with the Western Reserve Searider's. He was a 4 year varsity swimmer and 1 year captain at Stow-Munroe Falls HS where he held 4 team records.  He was also 4 year varsity swimmer and 3 year captain at Hiram College.  His coaching background spans from College, USA, High School, and to YMCA.  Matt began his coaching career at Hiram College where he was the men's and women's assistant coach for 2 seasons.  During that time Matt helped coach an NCAA Div III National Champion and 6 x NCAA Div III All-American.  Also while coaching at Hiram Matt also worked as a Sr. level assistant and age group coach for the Solon Stars Swim Club.  Matt then took the Head Coaching position at Cuyahoga Falls HS as well as the Head USA coach for the Cuyahoga Falls Tigersharks.  During his 3 years in Cuyahoga Falls he produced the first HS All-Americans and state finalists.  He coached 3 All-Americans and had 9 All-Ohio performances, and his swimmers broke 9 of the 11 school records.  He also coached swimmers at 4 YMCA National Championships and had 3 YMCA All-Americans.  During his first season at Hudson High School his girls team won their first ever Sectional title and finished 3rd at the NE District Meet.  His team (boys and girls) had more swimmers at the NE District Meet than any other teams.  The team broke 4 school/pool records and had 3 All-Ohio performers.  During his 1st year his swimmers broke more than 30 HEAT short course and long course records.  He also took 13 swimmers to the Speedo USA Sectional meet in July of 2007 . 

Katherine Kleinert - Asst Senior Coach/Head Age Group Coach

Katherine is excited to be starting HEAT again with all the new faces and families!  She started with the HEAT in 2001 and became the Head Age Group Coach in 2004. Katherine is also an assistant coach with Hudson High School Swimming and Diving a position she has held since 2004. Her main groups are Blue and Gold. She also coaches the Eastwood's AM group, along with some Silver and Red. Her experience and knowledge in swimming is passionately delivered to any age, and she enjoys working with all levels of swimmers. Katherine has helped coach the HEAT team to more than 50 short and long course records, and taken 13 swimmers to the Speedo USA Sectional meet in July.

Also coaching several high school All-American Swimmers and Scholars to four Cup Championships, a Sectional title, and District and State levels. Katherine's love for swimming began with a summer swim team she joined as an 8 year old in Grosse Pointe, Michigan where she grew up. Seeing early success, she joined the Pointe Aquatics USS Swim Team and swam year round earning several High Point awards for her age group. As a High School swimmer, Katherine earned four letters, one as a freshman at Grosse Pointe South High School, and three at Hudson High School, where she moved as a sophomore.

She was also captain of the girls team, and Ray Heiser Award recipient in 1999. Katherine graduated from Hudson in 1999, and continued her education at Ohio University. Other than coaching, Katherine loves to spend time with her family and friends. She comes from a big family with three sisters, who she loves to shop and play board games with. Katherine also loves to ski in the winter, and even more so relax in the sun!

Jen Beatty - Assistant Age Group Coach

 

Jen is ready to begin a new season!  This is Jen’s third year with Hudson HEAT.  Jen also coaches for Hudson High School Swimming and Diving, which she began in 2007.  Jen’s main groups are Senior and Silver.  She enjoys coaching all the swimmers and watching them race at meets.

Jen began swimming competitively at the age of 10.  She swam competitively for over ten years with the Cuyahoga Falls YMCA & USA teams, Silver Lake Country Club, Walsh Jesuit HS and as a freshman at California University of PA.  As a high school swimmer Jen was a four year district qualifier and a two time State qualifier placing 6th in the 2005 Ohio State Championship 200 FR relay.  She graduated from Walsh Jesuit in 2005 and was a four year letter recipient.  During the 2006-2007 season she was Asst coach at Revere High School.    

Jen is currently a senior at the University of Akron, majoring in middle level education.  Her concentrations are Mathematics and Science.  She is completing her student teaching at Hudson Middle School.  Jennifer is graduating in December with a Bachelors of Science.  In her spare time Jen likes to travel, relax in the sun, be outside, cook, and spend time with her friends and family.    

Cole Braham - Assistant Age Group Coach

 

Cole joined HEAT in 2007 as an age-group coach with HEAT. His main focus is on the younger swimmers in the red group, but he looks forward to being involved with all the groups as well. Cole was a four-year varsity swimmer and one-year captain at Hudson High School from 1999-2003 where he and the guys in his class finished 39-0 in dual meets during that span. He then played water polo for one season at Ohio University. Cole graduated from OU in 2007 with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and is currently in his second year at the University of Akron School of Law. Before the team disbanded, Cole coached the juggernaut Hudson Swim Club Typhoons summer league team for five seasons, three of which he was the head coach. He led the team to back-to-back AMSA league championships in 2006 and 2007. In his free time, Cole is big into football, basketball and baseball.

 

He thinks he and his fellow die-hard Cleveland sports fans deserve a title sometime in the near future... especially while he is still in town to enjoy it.  

Elizabeth Haber - Assistant Age Group

 

Elizabeth began swimming with EAC at the age of 5. She has competitively swam for 13 years with EAC, LESD, CLSC, Redwood Swim Club and HEAT.

In 2002, Elizabeth was asked to swim for the International Children's Games in Warsaw, Poland where her love for history and swimming grew. Elizabeth was a four year varsity swimmer at Hudson High School and graduated from Hudson in 2006.

She went on to Bowling Green State University to earn her degree in Integrated Social Studies Education which she completed in May of 2010. While in her student teaching experience, Elizabeth had the opportunity to assist the Findlay High School swim team in Findlay, Ohio. Elizabeth is currently looking for a teaching job in social studies and is anxious to begin working with the HEAT swimmers. She still enjoys swimming and being with friends and family.

 

 

Bart Kimble - Assistant Age Group/Sr. Coach

Bart grew up in Sagamore Hills and starting swimming at age 10 for Southeast YMCA in Bedford.  He swam for Garfield Heights Trinity High School for four years and was Cleveland District champion twice in the 200 IM.  He also held the Cleveland District record for the 200 IM. He went on to swim for Penn State University for 4 years and was captain his senior year.  He received the McCoy award for the university's top student-athlete for class of 1991. After getting his PhD in engineering from Penn State, Bart returned to Ohio in 1996 and joined Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in 1998 as a Research Engineer. Bart has spent the last 6 years as a coach for Stow-Munroe Falls High School serving as the head coach for the last 3 years. He enjoys spending time away from the pool playing with his two daughters, Megan and Amanda.

Mary Jo Lewis - Developmental Coach

 

Mary Jo grew up in Hudson and is happy to be a part of HEAT. She joined the team in 2007. Her main focus is on the 4th and 5th grade green group, practicing before school, but she'll also be involved with the HEAT at the Roosevelt location. She graduated from Our Lady of The Elms High School in Akron and Regis College in Denver, where she swam 3 seasons for the Rangers.

Mary Jo is also the Learn to Swim coordinator for HCER. She enjoys helping with Special Olympics, camping, traveling and cheering for the Green Bay Packers - especially at Lambeau Field! She lives in Kent with her husband, Denny and kids, Jesse and Caitlin (when they're not in school in St. Louis).

Jamie Martin - Assistant Age Group Coach 


Jamie is graduate from Hudson high school in 2007. He swam for the high school team all four years. Earning Co-captain honors his senior year. Jamie attended Bowling Green State University for two years while pursuing a degree in construction management. While at BGSU he was a member of the club water polo team and was named captain his sophomore year. Jamie has recently withdrawn from BGSU and is now pursuing a career in the United States Coast Guard, where he hopes to become a rescue swimmer. This is Jamie's first year as a coach for HEAT and looks forward to helping younger kids grow and learn about the sport of swimming.

Scott Pietrasz - Assistant Age Group Coach

 

Scott attended Brunswick High school where he was a member of their Varsity swim team for 4 years. In addition to the HEAT, Scott has coached two other swim teams including Forest Hills Swim Team and Redwood Swim Club. Scott also runs the Colorado timing system at the University of Akron for all hosted meets. Currently Scott is a student at the University of Akron where he is studying to be a Speech Pathologist as well as completing a minor in Counseling. In his spare time Scott is an active member of the city of Akron working as a mentor in the local schools as well as life guarding at the local area pools. Scott joined HEAT in 2007. He will be working primarily with the White Group.

Jen Ross - Assistant Age Group Coach

 

Jen is a graduate of Stow Munroe Falls High School. She has been swimming competitively for eleven years. Starting with Searider's, the CFYN Tigersharks and Maplewood Pool in the AMSA League. Jan also swam all four in high school and served as team captain in her Senior year.

She is currently attending Kent State University but hasn't yet decided on a major

Stephanie Ross - Head Age Group Coach (Roosevelt)

 

Stephanie is a 2004 graduate of Stow Munroe Falls High School. Stephanie swam competitively for 12 years with WRS, CFYN and Maplewood Pool.

In high school her goal of lettering in all events was cut short after a severe back injury sidelined her from competitive swimming. After her first semester at Kent she went to work at Walt Disney World for seven months. Prior to coaching for HEAT she was the head coach for the Western Reserve Searider's. While the primary coach at the Kent location, she is also pursuing a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics at Kent State University. Stephanie also works at Lifecenter Plus as a pool manager and lifeguard.

She likes to visit all of her friends in Florida any chance she gets!

Clare Salsberry - Assistant Age Group Coach

 

Clare is a graduate from Ohio University ('05) and The University of Akron ('09) and holds a master's degree in eduction. She graduated from Hudson High School in 2001, and, after swimming on Hudson's year-round team for seven years, swam varsity for four years, and served as co-captain in her senior year. While at Ohio University, Clare played intercollegiate water polo for four years. Clare's coaching experience includes five years with the Redwood Swim Club. She looks forward to working with all age groups, while meeting the swimmers and parents of HEAT. In her spare time, she likes to hang out with family, cook, jog in the woods, watch CAVS games and the Office, and catch up with old friends.
