COEC - Community Outreach & Education Core Teacher Workshop

Center for Environmental Health Sciences (CEHS)

Description:
COEC, the Community Outreach & Education Core of MIT\'s Center for Environmental Health Sciences (CEHS), offers an annual summer workshop for middle and high school teachers on the Cambridge MIT campus. These 2-3 day workshops have primarily covered biology topics, specifically: genetics, mutation, effects of radiation and DNA structure, and DNA damage & repair, areas currently being researched at CEHS. The morning sessions are spent reviewing biology basics, such as cell division and DNA replication, using LEGO molecular models. The afternoon sessions feature presentations from CEHS members about their current research, as well as visits to CEHS laboratories, to see cutting-edge techniques and instruments. This year\'s program dates are Tuesday, July 18 and Thursday, July 20, 2006.
