Description:
The After-School Astronomy Project (ASAP) is a 14-week program designed to promote effective reasoning and communication skills, computer skills, and science learning among urban, high school youth. The ASAP curriculum is based on use of MicroObservatory, a network of robotic telescopes operated via the Internet. ASAP engages youth in a variety of hands-on activities that support learning in astronomy and development of critical skills necessary to succeed in the 21st Century economy. ASAP is currently offered at the Timothy Smith Centers in Roxbury, MA hosted by these organizations: Dimock Community Health Center, Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts, Roxbury Multi-Service Center - John D. O`Bryant Youth Center, Tobin/Mission Hill Community Center. The program is run by MKI science educators in collaboration with after-school professionals of our partner community centers.
