Man of Distinction: Robert Pattinson

In our ongoing effort to help make you become a Better Man, AskMen.com's Men of Distinction series features male celebrities who have admirable characteristics -- from great style and distinct charisma to smart business minds and impressive fitness regimes. While not all of our subjects seem like obvious choices, they all got to where they are in life by flexing some serious muscle and standing out from the rest. There's a difference between an actor and a superstar, a musician and a rock legend, an athlete and a superhuman all-star, a politician and a history maker. Are you ready to find out what that is? Let's consider Robert Pattinson.

He commands a dollar

Before you scroll down straight to the comment section to rant that you couldn’t possibly learn anything from Twilight star Robert Pattinson, consider this: The actor came in at No. 35 on Vanity Fair’s list of the top-earning Hollywood stars in 2009, just six spots below Oscar-winner George Clooney and one spot above Academy favourite Clint Eastwood. Not bad for a 23-year-old. Of course, it didn’t hurt that he got paid for two Twilight flicks last year: £5 million for Eclipse and £3.5 million for New Moon (plus another £1 million for New Moon’s back end, based on its international gross of £435 million). Throw in an extra £2.6 million for his latest romantic drama Remember Me, and it looks like Cedric Diggory from those Harry Potter flicks is going to make it in Hollywood after all. Did we mention that Twilight was his first American film? Let the future negotiations begin.

He dresses respectfully

Say what you will about his hair -- it’s his easiest and most played out target. And while jeans and a T-shirt seem to be Robert Pattinson's off-camera get-up of choice, you won’t find Pattinson channelling Pete Doherty on the red carpet. The man knows how to dress for the occasion, so much so that Esquire gave him the “Well Played, Young Man” award after the 2009 Oscars. "With the success of Twilight, it would have been easy for Robert Pattinson to show up with some bullsh*t ‘I'm a dreamboat, I don't want to dress up’ slacker nonsense,” said the mag. “Instead, he followed all of the rules, opting for a sensible bow tie, a peaked lapel jacket, and just enough scruff to make a 14-year-old's heart flutter.”

He’s a beer drinker

We know, we know. Right now you’re thinking, I drink beer, and no one’s giving me a f*cking medal for it. We’d be inclined to think the same way, were it not for the fact that he's often spotted drinking in regular pubs. That’s when we had to accept that -- despite his level of fame and the kind of good looks that instantly melt the panties off of women -- R-Patz might actually be a cool guy. He has no bodyguards in sight, no roped off VIP area to keep him out of reach of the “common folk” and no bottles of Veuve Clicquot cooling in ice buckets.
