Josh Mease - Wilderness
Pop - If there's a rough, jagged or discordant edge to any of Josh Mease's exquisitely fashioned songs, we've yet to hear it (or, frankly, want to in this case). On his buoyant and bright debut album Wilderness, the Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter resurrects the whimsical sound and spirit of early Paul McCartney (or for you obscurists, early Emmitt Rhodes) and masterfully knocks out ten tracks of pure pop magic.
Described by NPR as "beautifully crafted with some lovely melodies and harmonies", Wilderness is far from the expansive wilds hinted at in the title. Instead, there's an intimate, comforting warmth permeating songs such as lead track "You Found Me" or velvet textured ballad "Eleanor." One of the album's many highlights is the love song "I See You" featuring fellow Brooklynite Jessica Martins of the fine band Via Audio, is a self-described "campfire stargazer about finding your other half." Catch the video for "White Diamonds", one of a few tracks recorded "live" in Mease's cozy apartment, after the jump.
