Learn about Habitat

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian movement dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and to making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat is founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, decent and affordable place to live in dignity and safety.

In Northern Ireland

Habitat for Humanity is a Christian cross-community movement for regeneration and reconciliation within and between communities in Northern Ireland and around the world. Community-based self-build housing programmes focus on volunteerism, skills and leadership development in conflict and postconflict settings.

The building of a house or community facility can provide shelter or much needed physical infrastructure. However, the building of community and the development of safe and shared spaces, where those who have been broken and divided can meet and work together, will provide the foundation that will build a shared and sustainable future for everyone.
