The poverty we face in Northern Ireland is not just physical but spiritual - the need for reconciliation. Habitat for Humanity is a Christian movementand we challenge people to put aside differences, to put simple faith and love into action, building hope and helping those in need.

Volunteers build hope by investing part of their lives in the lives of others, transforming families and communities.

Perspectives are broadened, skills are enhanced and lives are changed.

For participating families, home ownership represents a new start in many aspects of their lives. It provides new hope for the future with skills and confidence gained through partnering with Habitat for Humanity Northern Ireland.

Our volunteer programmes are people-centred. Intensive leadership development and other intentional training programmes equip volunteers with enhanced leadership skills and the understanding to engage in reconciliation work.

The Schools and Youth 'Good Relations and Citizenship' Programme, for example, challenges young people to consider how sectarianism and prejudice shape our thinking and our communities and demonstrates the roles they can play in reconciling communities both locally and globally.

Across the global Habitat network we are developing partnerships, sending teams of volunteers and building deepening relationships.

By sharing experiences with countries struggling with ethnic and religious conflict, we seek to create practical tools for reconciliation and to build hope across the Habitat world.
