sugarscaper Where do you get the inspiration from for your books?
I get my inspiration from many places. I do lots of research - actually you guys are some of the first to know that Zoey and the gang are coming to the UK for the 7th book, BURNED, and I've been in the Highlands doing lots of research!
hk_x hey x how did you come up with the story lines? love the books still need to read the new one. is that out?
My brilliant imagination makes up the story lines!! And TEMPTED will be out Oct 29th.
JustSejuti How did it all start when the House Of Night Novels were created? ::cool
In the summer of 2005 my wonderful agent, Meredith Bernstein, asked me to write a series set at a vampire finishing school. I was a high school English teacher, and even though I'd had about 10 adult books published by that time I right away thought of a young adult setting. My books are all very matriarchial, so I knew I'd based my world on a matriarch. Then I sat down with my dad, who is a biologist, and came up with the biological basis for the House of Night! Cool, huh?

Absolutely not! I'm already working on BURNED!
Daughter_of_Kalona who came up with the idea about fallen angels?
i did (PC). I based Kalona on an ancient Hebrew legend.

hk_x how long does it take to the write the books?
It takes me (PC) about 6 months to write the first draft. Then she sends the manuscript to me (Kristin) and I got through it checking to be sure Mom doesn't sound TOO OLD. Then she sends the manuscript back to me (PC) and I got through it again before sending to our editor.
iz-wind hiya. when and where are the london book signings going to be?
The London book siging is going to be at Ramsgate Library tomorrow at 11:30 am.
hk_x do you two feel closer because you spend more time together?
Kristin and I have always been really close. We're used to spending lots of time together, so this really hasn't changed our relationship at all. It definitely is fun, though!
music_rocker i'm a huge fan of the house of night books and i've always wondered if you've thought of turning the books into a film. x
The books have been optioned by Michael Birnbaum at Empire Pictures, and right now I know they've hired a screenwriter. Kristin and I don't have any control over casting or such stuff, though. So, we're pretty much in the dark with you guys!
faaaayyyeeee Hi both! How do you decide the plot together without arguing? surely you sometimes want the characters to do different things?
That's a good question! We used to argue about who Zoey should be with, but what we've found out is that Zoey (and the rest of the characters) do things we didn't expect them to do, so there's no use arguing over it. Plus, I (PC) really make the plotting decisions - Kristin just keeps me young!
iz-wind how are you findind the UK?
We love the UK!! We've been having such fun!
kate.wills who is your fave character and why?
PC: My favorite character is Aphrodite because I identify most closely with her (yes, as y'all would say,"I'm a bit cheeky/naughty" KC: I don't really have a favorite - or if I do it seems to change from book to book. In TEMPTED I think I liked a surprise character best, but I CAN'T TELL YOU GUYS WHO THAT IS YET! Sorry...
Jess Why did you chose those names for the characters? do they have a special meaning?
We choose a lot of names from kids who used to be in my classroom, and also from research I do. I chose Zoey's name! (Kristin)
team_damien how do u feel about so many people loving these books??
I think it's great! I especially love it when I hear from girls that I've helped them feel stronger. And it's also cool to hear from our gay kids who felt left out of young adult books until now.
Jess who came up with the idea about red vampyres?
PC: my dad and I did. We talked biologically about what would happen to a kind of super-beings' body if it died and then was magically brought back to life. Certain centers in the brain would fail - like the higher level emotions, etc., which is one reason the red vamps have to struggle so much to regain their humanity.
mooneybabees-x Do any of the characters represent you or anyone you know?
LOTS OF THEM! Lots are ex-students: Damien, Erin, Jack, all of the red fledglings... and, of course, Zoey is based on Kristin when she was 16. Kristin: But I'm 22 now and Zoey really is a lot different than I am. I definitely don't have her boyfriend problems!!!
HONFans What was the inspiration for Stark's archery gift?
PC: I've always loved archery. Plus, it's sexy, isn't it?!
hk_x do you think this will be ur career forever?
PC: Yep - this is definitely my forever career. Kristin: Well, I'll always coauthor with Mom, but my passion is for animal rescue and the sciences, so my eventual career will be in that field.
mercy.x why did you name the vampire God Nyx
Well, first, Nyx is a GODDESS, not a god. And the character Damien is based on helped me research obscure goddesses when I was beginning the writing. So he actually found Nyx, then I made up my world around her.
Claire Which guy will Zoey end up with in the end? ::wub
We have no idea. She's too young to make that choice right now. And why should she choose? It's a matriarchial world!
Kelly If you could be any character from the series, who would you be?
PC: Nyx - I like creating worlds! Kristin: Nyx - I like being in charge. Ah oh, now we'll have to fight about it!!!

christinesangel100 Hello-I wanted to ask -are the Red Fledgling Handbooks going to written in Stevie Rae's point of view?
No, the handbooks are really text books (only cool, not like school books), but a lot of TEMPTED is from Stevie Rae's point of view, and BURNED will be partially from her point of view, too.
katie you both should come down to wales and try welsh cakes they are delicious ::laugh
I'd love to! Actually I'm of Welsh descent. Bowman Cast moved from Wales to America in 1748 - so I'm probably related to some of you guys!

xsemontex can you give us a sneak peak of tempted?
If you come to Ramsgate I'll read the first 12 pages to you!! I can tell you that it's from multiple characters' point of views and that there are several surprises. Kristin: Mom made me cry three times in this book! So read it with a box of Kleenex!
Kelly How did you come up with the idea for the Raven-Mockers, they're creepy!
You're right Kelly - they ARE creepy! They came from ancient Cherokee legend - then I changed them for the HoN world. And you will be seeing more of them. A lot more!

Thank you Kttrzbrwn! We're hearting you! We only get annoyed at the comparisons when people haven't read our books, because once you've read the HoN you know that there really are very few similarities.
katie do you often get stopped in the street ?
That's a funny question Katie! We do sometimes. Actually, we've been recognized at a couple airports in the States. And, of course, in Tulsa everyone knows who we are.
mercy.x how do u come with the pictures on the cover
Our amazing cover design team comes up with the covers. They are brilliant, aren't they? We do give input, but it's their design.

Well, maybe. Especially if it was a cool name!
katie who came up with the markings that the vampyres and zoey have ?
PC: I do. I based them on ancient goddess lore. When a priestess was accepted into a goddess's service, she was often marked in some way. That's how I thought of the tattoos.

I have a wonderful agent and she sold the series. But remember - I'd had almost a dozen books published in the adult market when I sold the HoN series, so I wasn't a new writer.
sophie these books have really helped me because when i feel sad or stressed i think out situations that others are in and how you never know what goes on behind closed doors :)

PC: Ray Bradbury, Anne McCaffrey, Tanith Lee, Charlotte Bronte, Pat Conroy, Robin McKinley, Christopher Moore...the list goes on and on. KC: I love Robert Preston, Charlaine Harris, Bram Stoker, and lots of horror authors!
sophie How do you think you will cope without Kristin by your side when you are writing?
Where's she going? Honey, I've written more than a dozen books without my lovely daughter. I'll be just fine...

Hi Juliet - I have an entire blog post dedicated to tips for aspiring authors at www.pccast.blogspot.com. But basically - being an author is a job, just like any other. You have to research the career and know the business.

Right now I'm (PC) reading a very hot series by one of my favorite paranormal romance authors, Kresley Cole. Kristin: I just stared Prophecy of the Sisters by Michelle Zink.

Absolutely! I wouldn't coauthor with anyone except Kristin, and we couldn't work so well together if we weren't this close. We've always been excellent with communication, so it's a natural fit.

katie how hard was it for you to start your writing career and to get you first book published ?
I wrote my first book in 1st grade: Blubbly the Blue Whale. It did NOT get published. I've really been published since 2001. So, I did eventually get published easily, but it took a long time to get there.
carys280 Same here when im upset i read,and these books always put a smile on my face! i hope they keep getting better, ::tongue even if i do cry in very sad parts of the book!
