A late Labor Day weekend means a decline in travelers, and great deals to celebrate the end of summer. NY1's Valarie D'Elia filed the following report.

AAA says the number of people traveling more than 50 miles from home this labor day weekend will decrease by 13.3 percent over last year's decade-record high.

The reason for the decline this year is mainly because school will already have started, limiting the ability of families to get away.

As usual, most people hitting the road - 84 percent - are doing so by car, and just 4 percent head to the airport, marking the lowest number of trips by air this decade for the Labor Day holiday weekend. Those who do fly will reap the benefits of airfares 17 percent cheaper than last year.

Those people driving will find gas prices to be about $1 less per gallon than last year and if you are renting a car, rates are up seven percent this year, averaging $43 per day.

Hotels will be more affordable though, with rates for AAA Three Diamond and Two Diamond lodgings expected to be 12 percent less than last year, between $101 and $137 per night on average.

Now here's a D'Elia's Deal you don't want to miss this Labor Day weekend at Walt Disney World in Orlando. Book a five-night package to the Walt Disney World Resort through AAA Vacations at www.aaa.com and get the Disney Quick-Service Dining Plan for free.
