Speed Completely Beyond Belief

Abstract

These are speed-runs through the excellent free mission pack Beyond Belief by Matthias Worch. You can download the levels and the demos in one pack, or you can download just the demos if you already have the levels. The demos consist of two complete runs through the episode, killing all the monsters and finding all the secrets. One of the runs is on Easy skill, the other on Nightmare.

Installation

IMPORTANT: You need Quake v1.08 to watch the run. Lower versions won't work. You can find copies of v1.08 here.

GLQuake users will need v0.97 (download here).

Below you will find links to various files and a guide to choosing which will be the best ones for you to download. Once you've made your choice and downloaded, installation and running is straightforward: You should make a subdirectory of your main Quake directory called bbelief. This is where you should unzip all the contents of your downloads to.

Once you have done this, you can start SCBB. If you are on a DOS/Windows platform, you can do so by running the batch program scbb.bat in the bbelief directory. If you are on another platform, you should refer to the text file for instructions.

We also provide some patches for previous speed-runs of Beyond Belief, so you can watch them from the SCBB menu. If you already downloaded these speed-runs, you should put their files into the bbelief directory and run sbbpatch.exe prior to starting SCBB. This will patch the existing runs, and once you start up SCBB, you will be asked if you want to use them. Once in the menu, you can press F5 to switch between straight runs and 100% demos.

Non-DOS/Win users: Sorry, there's no patching program for you. You can either download the patched versions from this page, or ask us for patch-it-yourself instructions if you want to spare the extra download.

For more verbose and comprehensive installation and running instructions you can consult the text file.

Downloads

We've made the demos available in two versions: With and without the levels. This is to account for the fact that many people who are new to FPS games may not have heard of Beyond Belief before.

Also, we provide patched versions of previous speed-runs of Beyond Belief.

"I've never heard of Beyond Belief before."
Then you should grab the full release: levels and demos. The Beyond Belief levels are great to play, by the way, so enjoy! You may also want to download the three additional packs: SBBrun, SBBmovie, and SBBliteP.
"I already have Beyond Belief."
Good, you just need the demos we made for it, then. Get them from here. Also, consider the following question.
"I want more demos!"
Alright. Previously, two other speed-runs have been released for Beyond Belief. These are Speed Beyond Belief by the QdQ team, and Speed Beyond Belief lite by Evan Wagner and Gunnar Andre Mo. These completed the game quickly, without caring for kills and secrets. The runs are on Nightmare and Easy skill, respectively. Speed Beyond Belief comes in two flavours: first-person and refilmed.
We offer these runs as add-ons to SCBB. You can switch between these runs and SCBB's runs by pressing F5 in the menu.
"I haven't seen those runs yet."
Ok, download any or all of SBBrun, SBBmovie, and SBBliteP.
"I've already seen Speed Beyond Belief (lite)."
Good. You don't need to download them again. If you want to integrate them into SCBB, put them into your Beyond Belief directory and run the program sbbpatch.exe supplied in the main downloads. The next time you run SCBB, you will be asked if you want to see them. However, consider downloading the patched versions of any runs you do not have yet.

OK, that's probably all you need to know. Enjoy Speed Completely Beyond Belief!
