Runner's Delight at Speedcon

Abstract

This project was conceived at Speedcon, the speed-runner's meeting that took place in June 2000 at Tampere, Finland. In this run, two players, namely Will Marsh and Ilkka Kurkela, go through the Runner's Delight mission pack in cooperative mode, finishing the levels as fast as possible on Easy skill. You can download the levels and the demos in one pack, or you can download just the demos if you already have the levels.

Installation

IMPORTANT: You need Quake v1.08 to watch the run. Lower versions won't work. You can find copies of v1.08 here.

GLQuake users will need v0.97 (download here).

Below you will find links to various files and a guide to choosing which will be the best one for you to download. Once you've made your choice and downloaded, installation and running is straightforward: You should make a subdirectory of your main Quake directory called rde. This is where you should unzip all the contents of your download to.

Once you have done this, you can start RDSC. If you are on a DOS/Windows platform, you can do so by running the batch program rdsc.bat in the rde directory. If you are on another platform, you should refer to the text file for instructions.

Downloads

We've made the demos available in three versions: With and without the levels, the latter available in zip and dzip format. Dzip is a demo compression utility that compresses Quake demos better than Zip, resulting in reduced download sizes.

"I've never heard of Runner's Delight before."
Then you should grab the full release: levels and demos. The Runner's Delight levels are also playable in normal mode; you do not need to be a speedrunner yourself to enjoy them!
"I already have Runner' Delight."
Good, you just need the demos we made for it, then.
"I'm smart, and I want the smallest download."
Good choice. Grab the dzipped package then. If you do not already have Dzip, get it here. It will serve you well for more than just this release.
"Dzip? Huh? I don't mess with that."
Sigh. Ok, download a big old zip file.
