The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is reminding parents of elementary school students to submit their child’s immunization records by Dec. 16.
Students whose records are not submitted by this deadline face suspension from school.
The health unit is looking for up-to-date records on immunizations for measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus, diphtheria and polio.
Laurie Stanford, manager of the vaccine preventable disease program at the health unit, said whether or not the students have had the vaccinations, the health unit still needs current records.
“In the event that there is an outbreak of one of the listed diseases, we can quickly pinpoint which students are not vaccinated and take measures to protect them,” she stated in a press release.
Stanford said few students are typically suspended for incomplete records.
The health unit is required to keep the records under the Immunization of Schools Public Act.
A notice to high school students, meanwhile, was to have been sent out this week. High school students have until early spring to get their records updated.
