Proposed Plan Change 1C (Allocation and Use) to the Regional Plan: Water for Otago.

The Otago Regional Council is initiating a change to the Regional Plan: Water for Otago (Water Plan). This relates to the allocation and use of water, and builds onto the existing plan to allow for increasing flexibility in the way water is accessed in Otago. We hope the community will get behind this change. A series of public meetings are being held throughout Otago to discuss the proposed changes before they are notified.

Shotover River Management

The ORC and the Queenstown Lakes District Council have adopted a partnership strategy for works on the Shotover River Delta to minimise the likelihood of the Shotover River further restricting outflow from Lake Wakatipu when lake levels are high.

The main ORC initiatives are:

  • Enlarging the effective delta area by removing exotic vegetation;
  • Taking a more active role in gravel management and removing more gravel from the lower delta;
  • Constructing a training line across the base of the delta. The project is subject to consents and funding.
