Review of polling districts and polling places

NOTICE OF REVIEW OF POLLING ARRANGEMENTS

In accordance with the provisions of the Representation of the People Act 1983, I give notice that a review of all polling arrangements (districts, places and stations) is being conducted during 2008/9.  The approved arrangements are not expected to be reviewed, in full, again before 2011.

The review will not affect the authority’s boundary, or the boundaries of the eight parliamentary constituencies, or the 33 city wards or of any town/parish councils (including town/parish wards). What it may affect is the place where voting takes place and the catchments area for those districts.

Map and information relating to the present arrangements are now available for inspection (and purchase) at Electoral Services, Level 2, Town Hall, The Headrow, Leeds during normal office hours.  Appointments are advised so the necessary support can be made available.  Appointments can be arranged via 0113 2243440 or at electors@leeds.gov.uk

The Council will be pleased to receive representations for consideration from any interested stakeholder(s), particularly those with expertise in access for person with any type of disability.  Representation support or objection are welcomed but any objections should, wherever possible, be accompanied with alternative arrangements.

Representations for consideration by the authority, the Returning Officer and all interested stakeholder(s), should be made in writing by no later than 30th January 2009, to the Polling Review Office, Leeds City Council, C/O Electoral Services, Level 2, Town Hall, The Headrow, Leeds, LS1 3AD, or by email to electors@leeds.gov.uk

The Returning Officer will make comments to the Council, taking account of representations and available evidence for support or change to the current arrangements.  These will be published in June 2009.

The Council will then consider the Returning Officer’s recommendations and will publish the approved scheme in November 2009.  Separate Public Notices will be issued as to when these recommendations will be considered.

Dated this 1st day of December 2008
