With E3 finally over, what 360 title are you most pumped about?

This had to be one of the greatest E3's ever, well for everyone other than Sony. Nintendo brought smiles to many gamer’s faces when they displayed how awesome the Wii is coming together. The graphics are descent, gameplay addicting and the new control scheme ingenious. Sony struggled to show anything near as exciting as what was shown at E3 2005. Microsoft on the other hand, was all about unloading their heavy hitting second wave of games for the 360. Unruffled by what its competitors were doing, Microsoft came out confident in what they had and kicked major gaming ass while taking names. Question is with so many great games on the horizon for the 360, what title are you most waiting for? With games like Bioshock, Mass Effect, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent, Halo 3 and many more I have to say I was personally more knocked on my ass by Gears of War. The game looks freaking amazing. Proving a sweet squad based fps that sports some of the greatest visuals I've ever seen. Aside from that, you'll be able to take control of Sgt Marcus who just happens to be a bad ass dude set to put an end to all of the locust horde madness. The game is going to be freaking awesome, but what game are you most anticipating for the xbox 360?

Who would you like to see in Wii's, newly announced, Super Smash Bros Brawl?

After all the hype about Sony's ps3 and Microsoft’s sweet line up of upcoming games, it seems that the Wii making it's push to take E3 by storm. Just yesterday Nintendo displayed the first trailer from the new Super Smash Bros game and it is hot. Showing some action packed footage of what we can expect has left many gamers with their mouths wide open. No this game doesn't look like Gears of War or Resistance Fall of man, but it's strength lies in the gameplay. Anyone who has ever played Super Smash Bros on the gamecube knows how addicting the game is. The concept behind the game is easy, pick a character and beat the crap out of everyone around you, that’s it. Sounds simple, however in no time you'll find yourself sucked into the amazing world of combat. What was even cooler about the trailer was that Nintendo spilled the beans about a few new characters that gamers can expect to use in the next game of the series. They are as follows:
Pit (Kid Icarus)
Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid)
Zero Suit Samus (the blue "no-suit" Samus from Metroid: Zero Mission)
Metaknight (Kirby)
Wario (Wario)
Thats right folks all these characters mentioned above will be in the final production release. My personal favorite has to be solid snake...I mean really no one stands a chance against him. This new release of information has many gamers thinking about what other characters they would like to see in the new Wii rendition of Super Smash Bros. I personally would love to see some Yoshi, some resident evil characters, dude from prince of persia, viewtiful joe and since snake is in there I would only think its right to add a worthy adversary Sam Fisher.
Who would you like to see added to the game?

Microsoft's press conference started off on the right gears, how did you think it went?

Being that Sony and Nintendo had their press conferences first, Microsoft was last in line to demonstrate what they had in store for next gen gaming. The conference started off with a big bang showing about a 5 minute in game demo of Gears of War, which looks freaking amazing. From there Michael Moore proceeded to talk about how great the Xbox 360 is doing in sales and what I found most insteresting was how they didn't even mention the original xbox console. Both Sony and Nintendo explicitly stated that they still intended on developing games and a plan of attack for current gen systems, however Microsoft didn't. As a matter of fact I believe the entire presentation was focused on the 360, vista and this idea of providing a unified gaming experience. Not good news for thousands of xbox gamers. Aside from that I believe Microsoft provided the best line up of upcoming games for their next generation system, however this had to be expected due to their system being the only one that is currently available. Games like Gears of War, Too Human (which I wanted to see much more of) and Mass Effect currently put Microsoft at the top of the food chain. Although I don't feel they pushed the boundaries of gaming the way Nintendo plans to, I think software wise Microsoft is going to take E3 by storm. With all 3 press conferences out of the way, how do you think Microsoft did and which company presented the press conference this E3?

Nintendo just blew the roof off the place, what did you think?

After Sony's lame press conference, many feared that Nintendo would follow the same conventional suit...thank GOD they were wrong. Nintendo's conference was way more about the love for gaming than Sony's was. While Sony focused on stating they were the best company and sold the most units, Nintendo was getting back to the basics. They talked more about what their insirations were for the Wii and for gaming as a whole. They stressed that everything they have done has been to make gaming a mass media source, as tons of us could only hope. They went further in depth as to why the system was called Wii. Wii is a symbol of what Nintedo hopes to do for next gen gaming. They don't want to keep their hardcore followers happy, but reach out to those who have never played a game before. Unfortunatly they declined to officially state a release date and price tag today, however to be quite honest it may turn out to be the best thing for them in the long run. Nintendo is always the gaming company who is covered in secrecy so why wouldn't they keep gamers mouthes watering for a bit longer. Today Nintendo established themselves in the next generation of gaming, by stressing the playability of their games and systems rather than specs or graphics. Current score Sony - 0 Nintendo -1 Microsoft - pending (but after the disaster that a lot of their launch systems turned out to be it better be freaking great). What did you guys think about the conference? Oh yea, GO WII...

It's almost time to Wii our pants, are you ready?

With Sony's press conference out of the way, it's Nintendo's turn to spill the beans on their rendition of what the next generation of gaming is. Sony's conference was a bit lame, other than the highly anticipated date and price tag on that was officially released at the very end of the conference. Also it seems that Sony is actually fearing what Nintendo has in store for gamers come some time next November. They displayed their concerns by unvieling their newly develeoped ps3 controller for sporting 6 degrees of motion. Doesn't this resemble Nintendo's new go at revolutionizing the way games are played...yep. Do not fear fellow Wii fan's, Nintendo seems to have many well kept secrets to unviel at their E3 press conference, just a few minutes away. Now that Sony announced their big guns, do you think Nintendo is going to announce the cost and release date of their new Wii machine? I would have to think so, otherwise they may start to loose any ground they are making with there new revolutionary way to play games. There are thousands of people wishing the best to Nintedo and as we all know their press conferences are the most lively you'll find between the big three developers. I can't wait and I'm sure neither can you guys.

Start saving because if you plan on experiencing Sony's next gen greatness it's going to cost you

Sony's Pre E3 press conference is finally over and a lot of information was shed on the much anticipated PS3. Some playable demos and CG movies were displayed, but the real meat and bones was about the cost and release date of the blue beast. Sony officially announced that the PS3 will be released in the US on Nov 17 in a two configuration setting. Either you can pay $499 for the ps3 with a 20gb HD or $599 for the ps3 with a 60gb HD, a no brainer to anyone who expects to use their investment to the fullest. It was great to finally hear a date and price being announced, plus there were some great games displayed none of which I think was hotter than Heavenly Swords and Assassin's Creed. The system is shaping up quite nicely and I personally am setting Nov 16th aside to wait in line forever to be assured I get mine at launch. With the press conference done and over with, do you plan on buying a ps3?

5 titles many gamers aren't talking about, but will be once E3 comes and goes...

With the next generation of gaming on the horizon, the three big players are beginning to flex their muscles for the upcoming E3 and from a consumers perspective nothing has ever looked this good. Microsoft has heavy hitting titles lined up for display such as Too Human, Gears of War and Ninety Nine Nights. Nintendo is planning on proving to doubters that their next generation machine is truly revolutionary with their amazing redesigned controller and games such as Red Steel and Zelda. Sony also plans on unraveling their future of gaming with a powerful beast of a machine that sports amazing visuals for games such as Killzone and MGS4. With so much hype being built I’d thought I’d put all those highly anticipated titles aside and select my top 5 sleeper titles set to own you this E3. Note, by sleeper I simply mean titles that most gamers are overlooking due to some of the heavy hitters set to be displayed this E3.

#5 Thesis

Take7 Games has been quite low key with their upcoming project titled “Thesis”, Greek for opinion or idea. Even so it’s hard to not see the potential this game has to become one of the next great action adventure games to hit the market. Thesis takes place in Athens, anyone expecting God of War type gameplay will be sadly mistaken, where you’re placed in the role of Andronicos and Pheve, two journalist and owners of a cult paranormal website, who are contracted to uncover the secrets of an ancient artifact with unknown powers. Be assured that appearances are guaranteed to be deceiving and will lure our adventures into a world where the line between reality and myth becomes nonexistent. An intriguing storyline nonetheless, Thesis will take gamers everywhere from exotic locations to burning depths of hell itself. Prepare to use your knowledge to uncover the secrets that can ultimately lead to the humanities greatest findings or its destruction. Hopefully the gameplay will prove to be on pace with the storyline at E3.

#4 Sonic the Hedgehog

Released in 1991, Sonic the Hedgehog graced the Sega Genesis and ran his way into thousands of gamer’s hearts. Providing intricate level designs, an intriguing story line and a very user friendly controlling scheme, players were able to set out as Sonic and destroy all of the diabolical Dr. Eggman’s attempts at world domination. This series has become a classic to many, so much so that roughly 15 years later Sega has decided to spring Sonic into the next generation. The tentatively titled Sonic the Hedgehog game sports amazing visuals and in guaranteed to make Sonic and his environments look better than ever before. With this new rendition, gamers can expect crisp 60 frame-per-second gameplay, sick action sequences and an undeniable sense of speed while racing through level after level. Although the next generation Sonic has not yet set an official release date, at E3 don’t be shocked if the blue blur knocks you on your ass.

#3 NCAA 2007

Sports titles can be deemed some of the most difficult types of games for developers to create simply because there are so many expectations to live up to year in and year out. From stadium authenticity, to player realism, to realistic AI/physics system to true team representation, there is a lot of room for these types of games to tank. In comes the NCAA series. A spin off of the madden foundation; this game is much more than just another football clone. This series has been able to bring the passion of the sport back into the game. Leave all the salary talks, coaching staff/player drama and trades behind, because in this game it’s all about turning your beloved University into a collegiate powerhouse. NCAA 2007 is putting a sweet twist on their already fantastic football simulation, by focusing on the use of momentum to turn games around. You’ll be hard pressed to find a football fan that doesn’t love watching a trick play executed to perfection. Listening to fans worldwide, EA has stepped up and now will allow you to take those same risks and take your teams fate into their own hands. Take a risk and blitz all your D-line on a punt and you may be rewarded with a block that will push the tide in your teams favor; however also beware of the opposing team running a possible trick play leaving their tight wide open with a clear running path to the precious pay dirt. Mix the awesome gameplay of NCAA with the fact that this year they are developing a game for the xbox 360 and you have a contender for the best sports game of 2007. This is as real as it’s going to get without purchasing a ticket folks. After this game is presented at E3, expect many gamers to turn their heads and start counting down the days until they can bring glory back to their schools.

# 2 Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Double Agent

Ubisoft have been the creative minds behind many great titles, but none compare to the popularity that the Tom Clancy series has had within the gaming community. Their new project titled “Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Double Agent” is turning out to be their most ambitious game yet. Take everything great from the first games such as the amazing visuals, impeccable sense of realism, sick move list, sweet online features and add to that the new twist of being able to play both as a secret agent and terrorist to uncover who are the real enemies and ultimately make the decisions that will determine the outcome of the game. Gamers will again be taking the role of tough guy and all around bad ass Sam Fisher through a far tougher mission than he’s ever had to complete. You will have to choose wisely lying, killing and sabotaging the appropriate people to save as many lives as possible. Kill too many terrorists and you’ll give yourself away failing your mission, but take too long and you could end up being the sole reason of many people’s deaths. Equip yourself this E3 and put on your night vision goggles, because you will become Sam Fisher once again.

#1 Assassin’s Creed

With the PS3’s release nearing, many people are starting to talk about some of the software that is being confirmed for the system. While many people are drooling over video footage from MGS4 and Killzone, as am I, a part of me can’t help but be drawn to Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed. This game takes place in 1191 AD and places gamer in the shoes of Altair, an assassin who intends on following the assassin’s creed to suppress the hostilities that were occurring during the Third Crusades. The Holy Land is being destroyed and it’s up to you to show both sides the consequences of their actions by kicking ass and taking names. From the screenshots and recent video that have been released this game is shaping up to be an incredible gaming experience from beginning to end. It looks very much like Altair will be gifted with Prince of Persia type moves, as within the video he is shown scaling a wall only to decapitate two clueless guards. With great visuals, an intriguing story line and the era the game is going to be focusing on I can’t help but love what this game has to offer. I think as E3 comes and goes this title will be looked at much more as a title to be waiting for once the PS3 drops.

Seattle named top videogaming city by the company who has recently screwed thousands of gamers

While reading through my beloved IGN site this morning, I ran into a disturbing article that I must blog about. It seems that Microsoft and Sperling's BestPlaces have officially named Seattle as the top video gaming city in the United States. REALLY!!! Somehow I find that hard to believe. Even more so after reading the supportive data within this article that was supposed to strengthen their claims. First was a quote from Bert Sperling, founder of Sperling's BestPlaces, who said "The large amount of games played on xbox live and the high number of video games owned put Seattle at the top of list, but clearly the survey confirms that games are sweeping the U.S.". For starters this quote fails to mention any specifics whatsoever as to the statistical data found in regards to the amount of games played on xbox live or games owned. For any survey to even be considered valid, it must state the specific statistical data and formulas used to determine those results. Every time I read Mr. Sperling’s quote, all I see is an assumption. For instance if we purely take what he is stating to be true, you could simply swap out Seattle for any other city and the claim would still hold valid. There is nothing in his quote to factually diversify Seattle from any other city. The second, supportive data mentioned stated, “The 100 percent, completely scientific survey was based on the number of consoles owned per household, number of games purchased and rented, and frequency of online gameplay”. This hurts the survey more than anything else ever could. With this last piece of info, we are given insight as to the foundation of what Microsoft and BestPlaces consider to be the top criteria of a top gaming city. They make a logical fallacy by stating the number of consoles/games sold within a city directly correlates to the strength of the gaming industry within that city. In other words, they are looking purely at which cities spend more money on gaming items to crown the top video gaming city. Being a fanatic gamer, this assumption pisses me off. Money spent doesn’t determine the sentiment of gamers within a given city. This poll fails to acknowledge what the gaming industry is all about. The passion and acceptance of gaming into a city is the only true determinant of how strong the gaming industry is within a city and this can’t be measured nor should it be. The gaming community is growing bigger each day and there is no need for any one city to be deemed the top gaming community, let alone simply because they spend more money on games than another. There are tons of factors such as cost of living, work pay and work benefits that differ among cities that could lead to a city having to spend less on games.

After analyzing this article I think it’s more suitable that Microsoft and Sperling's BestPlaces restate their nomination of Seattle as the top video gaming city to the city that spent the most money on video games this past year. Even then, show me the statistical data as to what made Seattle number one and San Francisco 14th. With the recent abundance of xbox 360 failures worldwide, I'm going to have to have more than your word on anything to believe it.

Karas: The Prophecy is an amazing anime flick that will keep you wanting more

I must confess that I am a newcomer to the wide world of anime, however with every manga I read or movie I watch I fall deeper in love with the virtual universe of beauty known as anime. Having said that I went to my local Best Buy in full hopes of getting Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, however to my disarray they were completely sold out. Totally down and out I refused to leave without getting my daily fix of anime, so I started to scan the isles eager to find a title that would make up for my current disappointment. This is when I found Karas: The Prophecy. Everything from the outside cover of the DVD to the synopsis of the story made this anime flick stick out above the rest. Needless to say I bought it and flew home to see what my new purchase had to offer. All I can say is this movie rocked. The intro clip is jaw dropping and will keep you at the edge of your seat from start to finish. The story takes place in Tokyo where humans unknowingly live with spirits who exist in parallel dimension to humanities own. Led by Eko, a former Karas who has turned against the human race hell bent on destruction, the Mikura, demons that now are taking human forms and must kill humans for blood to survive, are attempting to disrupt the balance between the two worlds. The only hope for the human race lies in the lethal hands of Karas, a badass futuristic guardian of the city. As you can imagine there will be tons of blood shed. Story aside, the action sequences were absolutely amazing not to mention the fluidity of how Manga Videos was able to blend brilliant 2D and 3D animations together, that one has to be see to be believe. Also the voice acting within the movie is done quite well including well-known actors such as Jay Hernandez (Hostel), Matthew Lillard (Scream) and Piper Perabo (Coyote Ugly). This title will inevitably find its way into the hearts of many anime fans, not to mention their collections. I would recommend this movie to all anime fans.

Since I am fairly new to the anime world are there any recommendations, from the hardcore fans, for must see flicks?

Today's my 24th Birthday, damn I'm getting old.

Well I'm turning 24 today and I plan on partying hardcore... Oh wait I can't I have to go to my wonderful job and be a responsible adult now. Jeez this sucks, whatever happened to those heavenly summers and spring breaks that rocked from start to finish. It seems with each b-day that passes you're expected to become more of a stiff. I refuse to buy into that though, for now I will go to my job throw on some hardcore rock music and work to the sweet jams of disturbed, Coheed and Metallica. Oh and an update on trying to break into the video game industry in wonderful Cali, I've been applying like crazy to everything that encompasses my experiences and haven't heard back from anyone. I'm talking roughly 8 application posts and zero response...I can already tell it's going to be rough due to my currently living in Texas, but I most def plan on sticking to it. If I follow my dreams I won't be let down in the end. True failure is to never have tried at all.

Oklahoma HB3004 bill follows "video games as porn" belief, should it Pass or Not?

Current Poll Results:
11%
  Yes (1 votes)
44%
  No (4 votes)
22%
  Indifferent (2 votes)
Total Votes: 9 (Days Left: 29)
This poll is now closed.

First let me say Nintendo’s newly titled console, Wii, is ridiculous and I refuse to blog about it, especially because everyone else is. Having said that I am totally beside myself with all of the talks going on about Oklahoma’s controversial HB3004 bill. For those of you who haven’t heard, Oklahoma is currently trying to pass a bill that will deem certain games inappropriate for minors. As a matter of fact, the Oklahoma senate initially passed the bill 47 votes to 0, however due to an added amendment to HB3004 the bill will have to be re-approved for within the house prior to being sent to Okh governor Brad Henry. This bill focuses on banning all games that portray any references to sex and inappropriate violence. The bill goes on to define what they consider sexual references as well as inappropriate violence. Now that everyone’s caught up to date, do you think the Bill should be passed or not?

Click here to read the Bill.

I personally feel this bill shouldn’t be passed. Mainly because what supporters of this bill are aiming to accomplish, with HB3004, is ridiculous. The intentions behind this bill are to preserve the innocence of our youths by not providing them access to “inappropriate” material; however these same supporters fail to look at the reality of their cause. The goal of this bill assumes all our youths are naturally innocent to begin with, which all of us know isn’t the truth. To make a general assumption that the majority of group is one way is a total fallacy, therefore fighting to keep that assumed state of being of a group that was never really there to begin with is pointless. Also to say that games increase the chance of a child to grow up with issues is the attempt of people to make games the escape goat for the evil actions of specific youths. To say that games can alter the mindset of a child is to say that whatever they experience, in the real world, can have the same effect. With that said, kids who flip through channels and find any reality tv show, where sex is always a topic that arises, instantly becomes sexually charged or any cartoon or show that has violence in it will become violent natured…it just doesn’t make sense. The world is what it is and we as individuals do with it what we will. The true answer to keeping our youths sane (so to speak) is family interaction. It’s not to condemn and point fingers as to what is right or wrong, rather providing an understanding about what is real and what isn’t. Games for thousands of others, including myself, mean we get to step out of my own usually boring daily lives and become anything we want to. We no longer have to be slaves to our imagination.

I guess my main reason for saying no to this bill above all is the possible slippery slope that could arise from saying yes. Leaking into all forms of entertainment effecting all ages. With that I say no to the HB3004, what do you think?

As we all know from Guitar Hero 1, Red Octane is a huge supporter of independent artists; having a generous amount of the tracks be dedicated to unsigned bands. It seems this time Red Octane is pulling out all the stops by allowing bands from all over the world audition for rock n' roll glorification.

All rockers strap up your axe's, tune those durms and prepair to play the song of your life. Do you have what it takes to become the next Guitar Hero???

Fight Night Rnd 3 IGN Tournatment was awesome!

After recently watching the Fight Night Tournament videos (I know they've been on the site for a while, but I've procrastinated) that were posted on the IGN website, I have to request there be more tournaments at IGN. I had a blast watching you guys talk smack to each other, fighting dirty (which I must say Ivan probably took the trophy for) and overall awesomeness of one on one multiplayer gaming.

Getting to see everyone's different styles and approach to their challengers was great. As a gamer we all try to determine and exploite our opponents weaknesses, so it's really entertaining seeing it happen from a 3rd party perspective.

Some suggestion for possible future tournaments are GRAW, DOA4, Call of Duty 2, Madden, NCAA football, Guitar Hero and NBA Live. Keep up the good work guys and next year take Ivan's dirty ass out.
