I hate delays.

And who doesn't? Maybe patient people. But if you're reading my blog, then you've probably been reading it for a while now, and know how crazy and impatient I can be. That's why I was disgruntled when it was announced that the new orange version of Half-Life 2 has been delayed.

On the other hand, I realize that when talented developers are making a quality game, they need as much time as possible to make it as good as can be. Now, if the 360 version of Half-Life 2 was nothing more than a port of the PC version, then delays like this would be inexcusable. But since they're putting so much into this game (Half-Life 2, Episodes 1&2, Team Fortres, and Portal), the delay doesn't make me that upset. I'd much rather wait for a game and have it be glorious, than have the developers rush it out too early and have the game be crappy.

It just starts to get a little, upsetting, when almost every top quality game either gets delayed, or the announced release date is much later than originally expected. In the case of Twilight Princess, I think the wait was worth it.

But some delays baffle me. Metroid Prime 3 was going to be a launch title. But then it was delayed. The last thing I heard says that the game might not come out until the fall. I really don't think that Retro needs an additional year to improve the game.

Then there's Halo 3, which is rumored to be coming out in November, but knowing Bungie it won't be November 2007. They've had since the release of Halo 2 (2004) to work on Halo 3. Yes, I know that the finals specs on the 360 hardware probably hadn't been determined yet, but that was three years ago. Does it really take that long to make a first person shooter? And in the end, isn't it likely that the game won't live up to hype and only upset gamers (I'm already predicting that I'll hate more things in the game than I like).

I just wish that developers would work a little bit faster. I hate having to wait so long between truly great games. All the other games that I want either turn out crappy, or aren't worth what they cost ($60 is just too much).

Oh well. I guess that I just have to wait.

CURSES!!

It's not an HDMI thingy, but a better DVD drive?

But does it mean that watching movies will be faster and quieter, or that 360 games will be faster and quieter?

I would really like a quieter 360, its uber loudness makes hearing some things difficult.

And I need a fast and easy way to get 1,500 Achievement Points?

Well, we all saw this coming.

And by, "we all saw this coming," I meant that this is the last game I thought would be coming to Wii.

And all I can say is that Wii needs as many mature rated games as possible. It's about time that people realized Nintendo is not a "kiddy" company.

But Manhunt? I really never saw that coming.

How to make a God of War clone better than the orignal.

But how would I know, as I've never played God of War?

Well, There's a Hellboy game coming out this year.

First off, I've no clue as to how good this Hellboy game will be, or how good God of War is/how good its sequel will be.

BUT,

If this Hellboy game has good dialog and gameplay, and Ron Perlman voices Hellboy, then Ron Perlman's performance alone will make the game worth buying, and possibly better than God of War.

I honestly think that Ron Perlman is one of the greatest voice actors ever (though nowhere near as good as Mel Blanc, but then again, who could be?).

HOWEVER,

If the game does not have Ron Perlman's voice, then the game should be boycotted. If Ron Perlman can voice an animated movie I saw on Cartoon Network, he can voice a videogame, which he has voiced in the past (Halo 2 and Fallout to name a couple).

That, and at some point in the game I want to climb onto a monster and utterly destroy its brain with his giant gun of doom.

That, and I should start a petition for the next Guitar Hero game after the 360 one to be a Tenacious D game produced and directed by Jack Black and Kyle Gass themselves. And the game would have to be as M rated as the movie was R rated.

I've nothing else to say...

FOR NOW!!!!

Hey...

Do you know when...........................................

Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny is coming out on DVD? Because I really want to see it again. It was the funniest movie I've seen in years. And it had a [possible spoiler warning] flying sasquatch.

And my GamerScore is now 2000 points, which may be low to some people, but I think is good since I only have 5 or six games (plus three Arcade games).

And I am officially addicitted to Crackdown, even though the game isn't coming out for a few weeks.

That's all I've to say,

for now...

Crackdown demo impressions.

For those who haven't noticed, but sometime last week a demo for Crackdown was released. It was over 1GB in size, so it took a while to download.

And I thought that the demo was really fun, I'm even starting to think that the game might be worth buying even if it didn't have the Halo 3 Beta.

My only problem is that the game is so fun, I've been playing it a lot. So much that when the game comes out, I'll be so used to the increaed speed of leveling up that the actual speed may seem frustratingly slow.

*SPOILER*

I beat Splinter Cell: Double Agent this weekend, and I got the best ending (I shot Lambert though).

But what do you think about Crackdown after playing the demo?

Now RomExtraordinaire, what exactly do you want in your header, anything specific?

I should have it done before the end of next week (I am very lazy).

Anger, then confusion. Plus an update.

There is something wrong here. Very wrong.

Have you noticed? My blog has gone back to the standard blue color scheme, and my custom one is nowhere to be found. That's the anger part of the subject.

The confusion comes from the fact that there is now a thingy above my blog typing thingy that has things for bold, italicizing, underlining, among other things.

Why did it just apear today of all days?

Plus I beat Prey, not that it was that difficult.

And everyone should buy Mass Effect. Even if you don't have a 360, you must buy one for Mass Effect.

And I feel like listing my top 5 (because 10 is too many) games I want in 2007.

5. Assassin's Creed (360)-A lot of people are going to buy this game because it's the latest game made by the makers of Prince of Persia. I'm buying it because it's a crusades era stealth game.

4. Super Smash Bros. Brawl-What can I say? Honestly, what can I say?

3. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption-It's like the first 2 Metroid Prime games, only with better graphics, better controls, better puzzles (you know it will), and since Wii discs are twice as big as Gamecube games, the game should be longer too.

2. Mass Effect-It's an RPG with real-time combat, that allows you to travel accross an entire galaxy. And I've read it's suppossed to be the first part in a triology.

1. Super Mario Galaxy-Mario in space. Mini planetoids. And the best graphics on Wii. What else can be said (besides the great controls).

That's it, for now...

If it ain't broke...

Then don't fix it. Bungie has released some info on Halo 3's assault rifle, and while I can't honsetly complain yet, I do have to say that I'm worried.

Why cut the clip size almost in half? Why even change the gun at all?

Why not do the logical thing, and take the assault rifle from Halo: Combat Evolved, and put it in Halo 3, completely unchanged. In fact, why did they even take the assault rifle out of Halo 2 to begin with?

I'm really starting to get worried about Halo 3. And I'm really starting to think there's something wrong with Bungie. They're evil. Why? I'm not sure. All I can say is that they love tormenting us. They gave us Halo: Combat Evovled with its excellent gameplay, great weapons, and simple yet brilliant plot.

Then they make Halo 2, ruin/remove several of the 1st games best weapons (namely the pistol and assault rifle), force us to play as The Arbiter, with his horrible cloaking device and lack of a flashlight, for half of the game.

And then they have to go and make the Elites leave the Covenent, and I've read that the Grunts and Hunters (the latter of which wasn't as good in Halo 2) may have left as well. That means that the first two games' best enemies may now be allies. I don't care what Bungie says about the Brutes being better in Halo 3, that's still no excuse for spending an entire game killing nothing but them and Flood.

In other words, for everything that I love about the Halo series, there's something I hate about it.

That's why I know officially like Gears of War better, Epic hasn't had a chance to make us fans angry yet.

What do you think about the assault rifle? Too early to tell? Waiting until you by Crackdown solely for the Halo 3 Beta?

I'd be willing to bet that Bungie manages to somehow "forget" to put the assault rifle in the beta (or they might be nice for once and actually care what we fans have to say).

But I won't be happy until the assualt rifle's clip goes back to 60, and the pistol's power is restored to wha tit originally was, and it now has a scope again.

And I want the sub-machine gun completely removed from the game.

But that's just me. I'm a crazy person. And even though I said I wouldn't mention it, but Next-Gen-Gamer thinks that my opinion sucks.

My life sucks. I'm going to sleep now (but not really until Afro Samurai is over).

I'm still angry, and no, I won't let it go.

Remember that other post I did the other day at my anger about the GOTY award?

Well, I'm still angry about it. And while I'm not good enough at writing to tell you why, it seems that in the last N-Query, Matt Cassamassina summed up my opinion perfectly (though I should note that my lack of the newest Flash player means I can't watch the video mentioned, and I also can't download the Flash player due to my lack of being the admin).

And I'm not even going to make you search for the N-Query, as the response I speak of is written, word for word, below:

"Matt responds: Thanks for the comments, Pierce. I agree completely and hope I made my position clear in the video and written roundtables. It is an unfortunate possibility that the Game of the Year may not always be the best game, but rather the best game played by the majority of editors. I was expecting Zelda to lose for exactly that reason and I was quite confident that Gears of War would win. The Okami win surprised me and, the more I thought about it, pissed me off. Clearly the editors chose a game that felt new, but the truth of the matter is that Okami's stylized presentation is its only pioneering attribute. It does not deliver a new gameplay experience. Twilight Princess, by comparison, is deeper, more intuitive, better balanced, and ultimately much more entertaining by just about any measure. All of that true, I would have preferred that the editors simply selected Gears of War for its mood and atmosphere.

As you pointed out, though, what is far worse is the level of displayed arrogance and ignorance by some of the editors. If you watch the video, you will hear some of these people rip into Zelda as though it was a major disappointment and unworthy of even making the nominations list. The kicker is that these very same commentators clearly never played so much as 10 minutes of the game. In our written roundtable, which I encourage you to read on Insider, Peer and I made the case that - accidentally or on purpose - there is an editorial faction at IGN that does not give Nintendo's games a fair shake. I don't think there is any disputing that point after watching and reading our Game of the Year wrap-ups.

Normally, I would say to you that the best game is a matter of opinion and that is usually true. Do you like Metroid Prime or Halo? Both are worthy Game of the Year contenders in my mind and I would not slight anyone for picking one or the other. But Twilight Princess being better than Okami is a fact. If you're an intelligent human being and can accurately judge the strengths and weaknesses of each game, there is only one clear winner and it's Zelda. Because - visuals aside - the games are so similar, the outcome is only made easier to determine. I like Okami, but to pick it over Nintendo's four-years-in-the-making epic adventure is ludicrous.

You know, I freely admit to overlooking one Game of the Year contender. My Xbox 360 broke, preventing me from ever playing Rainbow Six Vegas, which a lot of people loved and nominated. The difference between me and many of IGN's other editors, though, is that I had nothing negative to say about a game I never played."

What else can I add, other than that I wish I had seen that video.

Maybe I'll start a vendetta against Okami (even if it's not possible to have a vendetta against a video game).

Crackdown, or Microsoft's lack of faith in new IPs.

I'm going to get this out of the way now, the main reason I'm writing about this is that I may get a free copy of Crackdown, and all I have to do is write about Crackdown having the Halo 3 Beta.

Anyway, what I'm supposed to be writing about is my opinion of the inclusion of the Halo 3 Beta. Now, there are several logical reason that I'll write about.

1. Bungie wants as many people as possible to play the Halo 3 Beta, so they're including it in what they hope will be a popular game.

2. Crackdown isn't very good, and Microsoft is trying to increase sales.

3. Crackdown is a quality game, but Microsoft doesn't think it will sell well, so they are trying to boost sales.

Theory one is possible, but if Bungie really wanted lots of people to buy the game, then why would they put a limit on the number of people that can get the Beta through other methods?

Theory two is also possible, but from what I've read the game is shaping up to be a good game, probably worth a purchase.

Theory three is the one I think is the most likely. Sales have shown that sequels to established franchises sell better than new IPs. Microsoft took a big chance with Gears of War, and it payed off.

Crackdown on the other hand, has no where as much hype (if any at all), and hasn't been developed by a well known development studio as GoW was (Epic is so good that developers go clamouring to them for use of the newest Unreal engine).

I've no clue as to whether or not Crackdown will be good. But I don't know how many people are going to want to buy a game that's bascially GTA where you play as a super cop.

Games cost lots of money to make. I've no clue how much it cost to make Crackdown, but some company (I think Namco, but I'm not sure) said that in order to break even, they would have to sell at least 500,000 copies of a PS3 (and I assume it would be about the same for a 360 game). Microsoft may have learned a lesson from Viva Pinata, people don't buy what they don't want. 360 gamers (for the most part) don't want a game like Viva Pinata. It's possible that Microsoft thinks the same may happen to Crackdown, people won't buy it because they don't want it, and they know that people will buy the game just to play Halo 3, if even only the Beta.

I know what you're thinking, Crackdown isn't like Viva Pinata, it's an action game, which is what 360 gamers buy. But it's a new IP, and it won't sell as many copies as a sequel in a franchise would.

In fact, if Microsoft were to make the Halo 3 Beta available on Xbox Live (or in disc form) for $5-10, it might sell better than Crackdown would on its own.

But what's my point? That regardless of how good Crackdown is, Microsoft doesn't think that it will sell well enough on its own, and including the Halo 3 Beta is the best thing they could do to boost sales.

As far as whether or not I think inclusion of the Halo 3 Beta is a good thing, I personally think it's cool because it's really the only way I'll get to try it, though I wish Microsoft had more faith in new IPs (now that GoW has sold as much as it has, it's gone beyond new IP to the first game in a franchise).

So what do you think? Am I crazy, or have I stumbled upon Microsoft's secret sales boosting plan?

You can let me know by responding with your opinion, and/or clicking on either the Thumbs Up or the Thumbs Down thingy (preferably the Thumbs Up one).
