Small Arms Hits Live Wednesday

Small Arms is set to hit the Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday! I've been looking forward to this one, because I am a big fan of anything that successfully combines cute and deadly, two great adjectives that go great together. It's like Super Smash Bros with guns on speed.

In "Small Arms," up to four players can join in the battles across many dynamic and richly detailed levels. Gamers can choose from a cast of outrageous fighters like the cyborg tabby cat, assassin truffle pig and mutant chimney sweep. While jumping from platform to platform shooting with 360° aim, gamers of all skill levels will be able to pick up and play this innovative side-scrolling action title.
Dibs on the cyborg tabby cat! The game should be available this Wednesday morning at 1AM PST, for the price of 800 Microsoft Points.

Full press release after the jump.

"Six Degrees of Small Arms" viral achievement? I am intrigued.

This actually looks like a really interesting game.

I can't wait to play this game. Good to see an original title on Live Arcade, and one that looks quite fun. For a while we only had retro games to choose from.

If this game is half as good as smash bros I will love it. This is actually one of my most anticipated games this year.

There will be versus right?

Unless I can kill my friends in what sounds like a fun shooter, then I couldn't care less.

Does look a tad smash bros-y indeed. Which obviously makes it look good.

It just might be the second game worth purchasing from the arcade.

Yeah I gotta say that this game looks pretty damn fun. Smash Bros with guns? I'm all for it.

This looks like a good time. Now that the major releases are over, how about some unbiased 360 vs. PS3 comparisons? I've really enjoyed the coverage thus far, and I've got a two friends with the other systems (I bought the Wii). I'm just curious where the non-fanboys (other than two friends that bicker at the drop of a hat) stand on these two graphic behemoths (since the Wii really isn't comparable)for my next purchase... :)

bring on the Castle Crashers and Heavy Weapon!!

Thanks to Microsoft i'll be ignoring the family once again come Thanksgiving! Between Gears of War, Rainbow Six Vegas and now this sweet looking title. I'll be ordering my family around to deliver my food and offer nothing but silence

WOW! Where did this come from? How did I miss hearing about this? Looks like my type of game!! I can't wait!!

mikevsworld,

I would get the 360 premium. The price is right, and the graphical difference at this point in time is not an issue. Plus the achievements for some reason add an extra element to playing the games.

As much as I love retro games, and I do, it's great to see some new indie games come to the live arcade again. Another plus is this will only be 800pts. Can't wait to give it a go!

to follow up on EnigmaNemesis' comment, and as I've said many many times before, there is extremely little graphical difference between the 360 and ps3, other than that the 360 COULD load bigger (and presumeably more detailed) textures, at the cost of some game speed.

The ps3's processing power MIGHT let it have better collision detection, or simulated physics, depending highly on what engines are incorporated. Enhanced particle effects are also possible.

Overall: it's extremely polished programming which will enable people to really appreciate any difference due to hardware limiatation. For now, all we'll see is limitations based on how easy it is to port a certain engine (e.g. epic's unreal engine being difficult to bring to ps3. )

Oh yeah, and I've been waiting for Small Arms since it was announced last year, Wooooot!!

No commenter image uploaded Queasy says:

Finally, a non-Retro XBLA game released!

That last was Lumines and that kind of sucked because it was incomplete and expensive.

Image of Sunjammer Sunjammer says:

mikevsword i can only say that i'm so happy with my 360 i'm deeply uncertain the PS3 can even match it, far less exceed it. I guess i'll know eventually when i succumb to titles like MGS4 or new Sly Cooper games, but for now, i can recommend the premium 360 pack with all my heart

As for being a fanboy, i think the primary qualifier there is to actually buy one console and be faithful to it to the point of absurdity. I have been unfaithful to a wild degree ;)

Six degrees achievement is like Gmail invites were at first; only the dev team possess it right now, and only people who play them will earn it, and only people who play THEM earn it, ad infinitum. They want to see how long it takes to trickle down.

What's with all of the 800 point price tags in XBLA titles now? When did the average price jump from $5 to $10? That really takes it from pure impulse purchase to something I have to think about, and usually decide against.

Very good, even though I blogged about it first.

Alot of people compare this to Smash Bros.

I think a better comparison would be Powerstone :)

No commenter image uploaded wheezo says:

All right! Let's hope this marks the end of the retro nightmare.

No commenter image uploaded kftgr says:

@Promethean:

Price for the newer games are almost all 800. Only the retro games and stuff that got a big push (Geo Wars) were 400 points.
