Penn. Senator Rick Santorum Goes to the Mat Against Violent Video Games

In a surprising show of hypocrisy in the government, Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum's new campaign ad features the upstanding politico in the wrestling ring talking about all his various partnerships with various government bigwigs. He makes reference to his work with Hillary Clinton's Anti Violent Video Game initiative, yet ten seconds later he's elbowing some poor wrestler guy right in the face.

I wouldn't try that divad,

The cosmic void of rationality surrounding Santorum is so powerfully warping, that by trying to use logic to defeat him, you may wind up UNDOING YOUR VERY EXISTENCE.

Vista Hits Nov. 30

ActiveWin is reporting that Windows Vista launches on Nov. 30 along with Office 2007, confirming that Microsoft is going to hit their promised delivery of Vista in 2006. That being said, the consumer versions of Vista are still planned for a January 2007 release, with ActiveWin saying it will likely be Jan. 30. Fancy, that should be about the time I get my *!^%**& computer behaving.

okay, my keyboard is broken and typos abound, but I think you get my point - it's a kernel rewrite... that's a big change.

there's a very big difference between xp and vista from a programming standpoint. Issues such as security and networking will function differently from an internal standpoint. In terms of what you, the user see? It tries to look "trendy" and pisses me off.

It also has a ton of 'idiot-proofing' features, like sp2's port disabling, that you'll have to turn off if you want advanced options.

EB Not Ganging Up With Sony To Gang Up On You

Unscrupulous bastards, relax! While we previously floated a rumor that EB Games, Sony and eBay were using their powers for good, that is untrue. These companies will continue to use their powers for evil and turn a blind eye while scalpers flood the online auction site with pre-orders, squeezing money out of rich PS3 hungry poopie heads. According to game site Next-Gen, the retailers PR director Chris Olivera stated: Are we canceling pre-orders that appear on eBay?

Yeah, I can see where you're comming from. But also, I want to try to play Wii tennis with my grandfather over Thanksgiving break. When the revision comes out, I can trade in my old system, and with the deals EB and such give, I can consider the first system as a fairly cheap rental to hold me over.

I think you can justify going either way, if you're doing it for a reason, and not rushing in as a mindlessly compelled consumer

@customreality: first gen consoles are often much easier to get homebrew running on, if you're into that scene though.

if those guys scalping consosles don't buy games, and they didn't sell them to people who did, it would really hurt sony.

I know there are a lot of people here upset with sony, but it's the executives, not the thousands of Japanese everyday guys doing the stuff you don't like.

If people are scalping consoles, someone needs to buy them, if only to warrent buying software. (or just buy games without a system, pfft, yeah right.)

Wii vs. Gamecube Screenshot Comparisons

We wish there were more similar screenshots (like of the same game), but here are a few comparing a game on GC to a game on Wii. Wii on top, GameCube on the bottom. Quite a big difference between the two—so much so that we're wondering if the Wii version isn't from a cut-scene. Madden 07 comparisons after the jump, and much more shots on their site. Some of which aren't very useful, like comparing Call of Duty 2 to Call of Duty 3.

Okay, would people give the whole "more room for textures on the disk" thing a freakin break?

detailed textures come from available MEMORY. the NUMBER of textures is what the optical storage can affect. Wii looks better because it has significantly more memory(and probably shader capability) than the Gamecube.

Remember, if cpu controlled graphics that much, what the hell would be the point of the gpu!?

Sony Dying, Nintendo Kickin' Ass

Feel sorry for Sony. This year's been tough. Real tough. Combine console delays with exploding batteries and you get blood letting. For the last quarter (ending September 30th), profits were down 94 percent, but interestingly PSP and PS2 earnings remained "relatively unchanged." Nintendo, or the Bizarro-Sony as the kids like to say, is pwning all. The DS continues to print money, and the company isn't losing cash on the GameCube 1.5 (AKA, the Wii).

I agree with aegies, even if you don't like Sony, the fact that's it's there make Microsoft and Nintendo work harder.

PLUS, it's not SONY you hate guys, it's the people running it!!! Get it through your heads that if all the top execs. who are screwing things up were replaced, the company could be be reputable again!

Exhange Real Money For Fake Money in Godfather 360

Major Nelson updated his blog with a list of all the Godfather microcontent coming to Marketplace. Most disturbing? Name: In-Game Money - $100K Available in: All regions Price: 75 Points Dash Details: Fatten your wallet with $100K. Maybe that'll help you on your way to buying that new Tommy gun you've had your eye on. The money will be added directly to your in-game bankroll once you return to gameplay. This is a one-time offer; it cannot be purchased multiple times.

Yeah, Microsoft does have a lot of control over what type of content goes up in their stores, so they do have some culpability.

Free market economics are pretty important though, and it's technically impossible to let the good guys through without some jerk taking advantage of the system. EA making a double standard for the xbox and xbox360 versions is freakin weird if that's true though.

On the plus side, as more games become multi-player, this should become less of an issue, since it will create an unlevel playing field (like those accounts on WoW that Blizzard got rid of).

Here's hoping more good will come out of live to balance things a bit. XNA anyone?

Sony Responds to Comparison Chart

There's been much noise about the comparison chart Sony put out trying to show that their console is in fact cheaper than the Xbox 360. Sony Computer Entertainment of America spokesguy sent along his response to the whole kerfluffle: "Through our comparison chart we are not implying that you must purchase the myriad of peripherals and add-ons that Microsoft offers to play your Xbox 360. You don't.

I enjoyed baberg's analogy too.

I have a 360 and I like it. I also have a Pentium 3 laptop. When I bought this laptop, it was 3,000$. Just because someone else gets a similarly priced laptop doesn't mean they should expect the same kind of specs.

The PS3 is coming out a whole year after the 360. Tech-wise, that's a lot of time for the price of components to fall in itself. If it's a bit of a better bang for the buck, how suprised can we be??? Either the PS3 should be slightly more powerful at the same price, or a slightly better deal; if not, that would mean the tech R&D; is at a standstill, and we all lose.

Also, anyone else find it strange how nice PS3 is getting along with Wii here? I guess the Wii is officially the little bro/sis everyone wants to have...
