Now That Dems Will Be in Charge, Darfur Jumps to Top of Fox News' Agenda

Reported by Judy - Wed 12:01 PM

For three years, Fox News has largely turned a blind eye to the humanitarian crisis in Darfur, but now that Democrats will be in charge of Congress in January, Darfur has suddenly jumped to the top of Fox News' agenda.

MacCallum Blames Pelosi for Reyes' Ignorance, Ignores Same Ignorance in GOP

Reported by Judy - Wed 11:43 AM

Fox News' "Live Desk" is doing its best to try to make life miserable for House Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi. The latest attempt came Tuesday (December 12, 2006), when Martha MacCallum linked Pelosi to a lack of knowledge on the part of incoming House Intelligence Committee Chairman Silvestre Reyes. With Video.

Silvestre Reyes Doesn't Know Difference Between Shiites and Sunnis - But Is He the One Running the War?

Reported by Janie - Wed 11:02 AM

During Monday night's "Special Report", host Brit Hume used a portion of his "Two Minutes of Hate" (AKA "Grapevine" segment) to trash incoming House Intelligence Committee chairman Silvestre Reyes for being unable to identify differences between Muslim sects. No mention, of course, of reports that the President who began the war was not only unable to identify the differences between the sects, but was unaware that various sects existed.

Luddite O'Reilly warns of child-abuse on Internet but falsifies background of cited video

Reported by Chrish - Wed 2:13 AM

On a recent Impact Segment (12/6/06) Papa O'Reilly warned again of the dangers we face from the machines, and pointed to a web video featuring a young girl railing against war, religion, and other adult matters. He characterized her appearance as "child abuse" and said that he knew who her parents are and the website address, but was not going to further publicize it to protect the little girl. He was lying or grossly misinformed.

In Happy Iraq, Oliver North "Jokes" That French Girl Scouts And Alan Colmes Are Part of Iraq Insurgency

Reported by Ellen - Wed 12:55 AM

Proven liar Oliver North (his conviction was overturned on a technicality) was on Hannity & Colmes again last night (12/12/06), still in Happy Iraq, with another Happy soldier talking Happy Talk. The only problem was that North came close to being shot. So to keep the Happy spirit, North joked to Alan Colmes, "Some character, who apparently had been trained by the French Girl Scouts or by one of your friends, Alan, took a pot shot at us. The outcome might have been different if he'd been trained to shoot by Dick Cheney, but he missed." Note to North: Dick Cheney missed, too. With video (coming).

Donald Rumsfeld Passes The Buck On Iraq; Hannity Fails To Take Notice

Reported by Ellen - Wed 12:38 AM

Hannity & Colmes aired the third (and, I hope, final) installment of Sean Hannity’s fawning interview with Donald Rumsfeld last night, December 12, 2006. In my previous post about the first two installments, I noted that Rumsfeld seemed to be passing the buck of responsibility for the problems in Iraq when he said, “There’s only so much the military can do. The military can do the military tasks but ultimately, it will take a political solution.” It was an implication Sean Hannity never explored. In the third installment, Rumsfeld repeated and expounded on that theory so that there was no doubt about his allusion. Once again, Hannity overlooked it. With video.

Double Standard for incoming Democratic leadership

Reported by Chrish - Tue 11:55 PM

On The Big Story today 12/11/06, John Gibson and guest Erick Stakelbeck, "Terror Analyst," discussed an interview where incoming Intelligence chief Silvestre Reyes incorrectly identified the majority of Al Queda followers as Shia when he should have said Sunni. The guest was even-handed in his criticism, saying it's appalling how many in Congress are uninformed about our enemies, but Gibson emphasized that the incoming chief is a Democrat. Too bad he doesn't hold the "commander-in-chief" to such a standard.

Bill O'Reilly Calls Guest Fascist Then Immediately Denies Doing It

Reported by Deborah - Tue 10:20 PM

Tonight Bill O'Reilly demonstrated for viewers just how nasty he can be when opposed. Wayne Madsen decided not to hide under his desk and bravely faced Christmas Bill after writing a critical article about his "war on christmas" in the Sacremento Bee. When Madsen told O'Reilly that the great war wasn't real, it was an oy vey or oh jeez moment, depending on your holiday symbol preference. 12/12/06

Fox Says President Leaning Towards Sending Thousands More Troops To Iraq

Reported by Donna - Tue 4:32 PM

Today on Studio B with Shepard Smith they ran a segment on what the president might be thinking on his new inititative in Iraq. Under the banner 'Battle For Iraq' Smith said that senior administation officials now told Fox News that President Bush is leaning toward a large increase, possibly more than 10,000 U.S. forces to bring down the level of violence.

Tom DeLay Blames Iraq War Problems On Liberals, Democrats And Media

Reported by Ellen - Tue 2:11 PM

Tom DeLay told an astounded Alan Colmes last night that liberals, Democrats and the media are the cause of the problems in the Iraq war. Colmes repeatedly made the point that the president is the commander in chief, that it was neither liberals nor the media who planned and executed the war effort. Yet DeLay insisted it was all the liberals/media's fault. Updated with video.

In Effort to Smear Democrats, FOX Hosts Report Unsubstantiated Rumor as News

Reported by Marie Therese - Tue 8:30 AM

On Monday morning (December 11, 2006) the FOX & Friends hosts - Steve Doocy, Kiran Chetry, Gretchen Carlson and Brian Kilmeade - engaged in the worst kind of yellow journalism. They aired a story carried by WorldNet Daily claiming that an (unnamed) Hamas website reported that prominent Democratic Party leaders secretly met with Hamas leaders in Europe. Despite the fact that a Democratic party spokesperson denied that such a meeting ever took place, the original Hamas source was unnamed and FOX News had no independent corroboration of the WND story, it was given plenty of airplay during all three hours of the FOX & Friends show.

Tug o' War on FOX News Sunday

Reported by Marie Therese - Tue 5:29 AM

While doing holiday baking Sunday afternoon (December 10th), I turned on FOX News Sunday just to have some background noise and also to check on FOX's pale imitation of Meet the Press. The topic of conversation was the same as it was on every other Sunday political talk show - the Iraq Study Group's long-anticipated and much-leaked report. I think someone cloned James Baker and Lee Hamilton - they seemed to be on every talk show saying the same things: We did our best, there's no easy solution, the situation in Iraq is rapidly deteriorating, we took the issue of Iran's nuclear ambition off the table, let's talk with Iran and Syria, etc., etc., blah, blah, blah. There were several moments of sanity, however, when NPR's Juan Williams actually defended the Democratic leadership and butted heads with Brit Hume and Bill Kristol as they spouted neocon drivel.

Donald Rumsfeld Tells Sean Hannity In Iraq, “Mission Accomplishing” – Or Maybe Not

Reported by Ellen - Tue 2:57 AM

The state of American journalism may have reached a new low last night (12/11/06) with Sean Hannity's softball interviews with Donald Rumsfeld recorded during their junket to Iraq. As often happens when he is in the presence of a Bush administration official, bullyboy Hannity was transformed into a lapdog – and a remarkably incurious one at that. You might think that a network which brags about providing “real journalism, fair and balanced” might have at least some questions about the planning and strategy for the architect of a war that was just declared a failure by a group of consultants called in by the president. But not on FOX News. So solicitous was Hannity, he didn’t seem to notice that Rumsfeld contradicted himself by claiming the war on terror a success while, at the same time, claiming that the threats to the US are growing.

Hostilities expand, war declared on Hannukah

Reported by Chrish - Mon 11:42 PM

Or so it would seem if you watched The O'reilly Factor tonight 12/11/06. His interview with Rabbi Elazar Bogomilsky indicated that because the rabbi had requested a Menorah be put up to accompany the Seattle-Tacoma Airport's Christmas trees (nine or fourteen, depending whose reporting you trust - the Seattle newspaper or O'Reilly, respectively). Rather than accomodate the rabbi and then be forced to accomodate other religions, the airport management opted to remove the trees.

Bill O'Reilly Searching For Republican Media Critics

Reported by Deborah - Mon 10:49 PM

Bill O'Reilly holds everyone accountable for their actions but naturally makes an exception for himself. Tonight he concluded that he gets bad press because the tv and movie critics are all liberal. Claiming that he has looked unsuccessfully for a Republican media critic, Bill asked viewers to help him in the search. So all you wanna-be movie and tv critics out there, looking for that big break, just run to the voter registration office first thing tomorrow and give Bill a call. If you're lucky enough to be called for an interview, don't forget a sprig of holly on your jacket lapel wouldn't hurt.12/11/06

MacCallum Picking on Pelosi

Reported by Judy - Mon 10:20 PM

Neil Cavuto Claims Dennis Hastert "Immediately Removed" Mark Foley After He Learned About Foley's Pedophilia

Reported by Melanie - Mon 7:29 PM

One of the first segments on Your World w/Neil Cavuto today (December 11, 2006) was about Rep. William Jefferson (D-La) being reelected to a 9th term in congress despite his being the subject of an FBI investigation after $90,000 in cash was found in a freezer in his Washington home. The topic of discussion, featuring radio talk show host Steve Malzberg and Democratic strategist Laura Schwartz, was whether Jefferson's reelection would "backfire on Dems," and in particular on Nancy Pelosi, as if Pelosi was personally responsible for his reelection.
