One of the segments on Your World w/Neil Cavuto today (October 18, 2006) asked what the Dow will do if Democrats win big in November. The chyron that ran at the bottom of the screen read, "Will Stocks Surge Even Higher if Dems Sweep?"

After introducing the roundtable panel, Cavuto turned to Fox's David Asman and asked, "Split government, soaring Dow?"

Some News On Iraq - On Track For Deadliest Month In Nearly Two Years For American Troops

While there was still more time dedicated to the Dow (it was rarely mentioned when it was down, now it's on all the time) and not being able to carry liquids on planes, Studio B managed to dedicate a short segment to what's going on in Iraq.

Apparently 10 United States troops have been killed today and October is on track for the deadliest month in nearly two years for American troops.

By request, here's the video of Leslie Marshall’s outstanding showing on Hannity & Colmes Monday night, October 16, 2006. Marshall is a radio talk show host I’ve not heard of but she easily outclassed Dennis Miller-wannabe Curtis Sliwa. Sliwa, still stuck in the 70’s with his red beret, obviously thought he was full of “bon mots” such as “Kim Jong Mentally Ill” and "behind the rice cake curtain." He also offered an unending line of wisecracks about Ted Turner’s drinking. Marshall didn’t need to insult anyone but made her points with grace, style and gumption. I hope she’ll be back soon. She’s our latest top dog.

Conservative Radio hosts get talking points directly from Bush

The Republican party has launched a campaign to win back conservative radio stars who have "been turning against the administration on a variety of issues," and some of the biggest names (excepting the biggest) went to the White House for a presidential command performance last month, it was reported today 10/16/06. Big Story host John Gibson didn't make the cut but right-wing guest Mike Gallagher did.

Another Hannity & Colmes, another night of denial of Republican woes and an unbalanced attempt to highlight bad news for Democrats. Rather than discuss any of the latest polls or the deep discontent with Republicans that is now seen in places like Texas, last night’s election segment focused on Nancy Pelosi, instead. Democratic Strategist Mary Anne Marsh said, “I almost feel bad for Sean because I know he’ll be in a sanitarium 22 days from today.”

O'Reilly looked mighty happy tonight when he revealed during his e-mail segment that he may be appearing on Oprah and he would give more details tomorrow. It seems that David Letterman is willing to host him for a second round as well. Oh Joy!! Bill O'Reilly's blatant campaigning for Republicans with his three part interview with President Bush may have backfired badly tonight. Bush talked about the Military Commissions Act he signed into law today and refused to talk about how far interrogators can go claiming repeatedly that he wouldn't " talk about technique." O'Reilly tried to sugarcoat Bush' evasive rhetoric in a later segment with Charles Rangel and then let Newt Gingrich do his usual vote for democrats and die routine.10/17/06

Neil Cavuto: Doing His Part to Influence the Mid-Term Elections

Neil Cavuto's primary assignment from the GOP this campaign season is to drum into his viewers how well the economy is doing and how much credit George Bush deserves for it. As a result, his show has become something of a monologue on the topic.

For example, it was fortuitous that the Dow hit a new all-time high about ten days ago because every day it has increased since then, Cavuto has flashed (sometimes three or four times per show) a new full-screen graphic announcing the same -- NEW ALL-TIME HIGH -- no matter how small the increase.

A Democrat Did It, Why Can't We?

During last night's "Special Report" (10/16) host Brit Hume used his "Two Minutes of Hate" (AKA "Grapevine") segment to compare the current (Republican) Mark Foley scandal to that of Gerry Studds, a Democrat also involved in a page sex scandal in 1973.

Hume quoted prominent Democrats that supported Studds' work through the years, in an attempt to tie those Democrats to the scandal, while using the "they did it too" argument and neglecting to mention that the page involved in the Studds' scandal was actually age of consent under the law.

Apparently at FOX what determines if a Bush impersonator is any good or not is the content of his act and the company he's keeping. If the act is flattering to Bush, he's good. If it's critical, he's bad. Simple.

Yesterday morning FOX & Friends host Brian Kilmeade asked retired Lt. Gen. Mike "Rifle" DeLong, author of Inside CENTCOM, whether or not there is a plan to handle North Korea. "There's a plan in place to handle that area of the world, specifically the Koreas," responded DeLong. Intrigued, I looked it up and, sure enough, it exists. It's called OPLAN 5027 and, although it's been updated many times during various administrations, both Democratic and Republic, the gist of it remains the same. In addition to massive amounts of military ordnance, America guarantees to send 400,000 to 690,000 soldiers to South Korea to stave off a North Korean onslaught. With our military stretched to the breaking point in Afghanistan and Iraq, a war with North Korea could only be fought one way - by reinstituting compulsory selective service.

The look on hate-mongering Melanie Morgan’s face was priceless last night as Alan Colmes confronted her on her new “exposé” of Cindy Sheehan’s private life. “I find that going after Cindy Sheehan, the way you are, despicable… I really think it’s disgusting… What does it have to do with anything?” Colmes was referring to Morgan's claim that Sheehan is addicted to internet pornography. Hannity hilariously used that "revelation" to try to equate Sheehan with disgraced former Congressman Mark Foley. With video.

Unhinged Sean Hannity Can’t Deal With The Bad News For Republicans

Once again, Hannity & Colmes ignored any Republican scandals tonight. There was no discussion about David Kuo’s explosive allegations against the Bush administration’s “faith-based initiatives,” nothing about the FBI investigation of Republican Congressman Curt Weldon, nor any updates on the investigation into a possible cover-up of the Foley page scandal. Instead, the show went after the usual targets and tried to make them seem fresh: an “exposé” of Cindy Sheehan, plus the latest “shockers” from Bill Clinton and Ted Turner. Pot Hannity declared, without any sense of irony, “There he goes again. Former President Clinton sounding a lot like a shrill, out of work policitican. Just three weeks before election day, he’s name-calling, he’s pointing, he’s sounding a bit like Al Gore – unhinged.”

O'Reilly's interview with Bush merely provided platform for Republican talking points

Bill O'Reilly was invited to the White House to interview Bush in a FOX News Exclusive, much like his exclusive prior to the 2004 elections.

O'Reilly promised to be "fair" yet "tough", but warned that in this case he would not be his usual confrontational self and would be respectful. He also gave a heads up, in his Talking Points Memo immediately preceding the interview, that the interview would cover the "most vital issues facing America": the conflicts (his emphasis)with Iraq, Iran, North Korea, and terror, rather than domestic issues. His reasoning? It does no good to look back; we must look ahead. No rehashing of WMDs!

Poor Bill O'Reilly Just Wants To Go On Oprah's Show

Bill O'Reilly is very insulted that Oprah Winfrey won't let him plug his book on her show so tonight he did a segment about how Oprah's " leaning left". Claiming that her liberal guests far out number conservative ones, he just couldn't understand why he, author of four bestsellers, had not been invited to appear. Of course, he insisted " it's not about me" and it's not " sour grapes." Kirsten Powers and Michelle Malkin were on hand and dropped a little bombshell of their own.10/16/06

The second segment today (October 16, 2006) on Fox's Your World w/Neil Cavuto featured guests Admiral Stansfield Turner, a former director of the CIA, and James Lilley, a former ambassador to both China and South Korea.

Cavuto opened the segment with this:

Alright, meantime, sanctions on North Korea may be in place but my next guest says no matter what is done, a nuke will eventually be smuggled into this country and it will be detonated.

Cavuto fears that the United States is fast becoming fascist or socialist or communist or totalitarian -- I'm not sure precisely which -- but we are losing our country, that's for sure. Why? No, not because lawyers are being jailed on trumped-up charges. No, not because one man, the President of the United States now has the power to declare YOU an enemy combatant; drag you out of your home and disappear you forever. No, not because if you are hauled away you don't have the right anymore to make that one phone call to your lawyer or to your family to tell them where you are or what has happened.
