The above ML occurred during an intense electrical storm and is probably the most unusual I have ever photographed.  At this time the ML was stationary at 5.85 statue miles from Roofus and the halo was ~108 feet high.   Rio Grande Electric power was off line at this time because of an intense electrical storm.  More of that storm is shown below:

How often do they appear?  Good questions.  
To find out I created Roofus.  Roofus is a surveillance video camera that has been photographing Mitchell Flat (where MLs roam) every possible night since January 2003.
