Three years ago IRMA - The Irish Recorded Music Association
- introduced a prestigious annual Honour to recognise the
outstanding talents and contributions of an artist or individual
to Irish Music. IRMA HONOURS is the highest and most distinguished
accolade that anyone from the world of music can ever hope
to achieve in this country.
The recipient of this years award will be announced in the
press in March.
Veteran artist Christy Moore who celebrated forty years in
the business, was the first artist to receive this inaugural
Honour which attracted hundreds of guests from the world of
entertainment and music. The Award was presented by U2's Edge.
Last year Terry Wogan presented legendary Irish DJ Larry Gogan
with the Honour.
During the evening a tribute video is shown to the assembled
audience. Participants over the last two years have included
Bono, Van Morrison, Ronnie Drew, An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern,
Damien Dempsey, Brenda Fricker, Maxi, Michael Flatley, Larry
Mullen, The Corrs, Ronan Keating and Liam O'Maonlai. The President
Mary Robinson also sent official word.
MasterCard sponsors the evening and three very worthwhile
charities will benefit from the event, with proceeds to be
divided among Our Lady's Children's Hospital Crumlin, The
Chernobyl Children's Project and IRMA Trust.
This year IRMA Honours in association with MasterCard will
take place on 31st March in City West Hotel Dublin.
