Add your Character
Posted by Draugen at 09:35 PST
Now you can create a biography for your character. Add it to our people section (character database) and even link it to your guild. Tell the world who you are and what you're after. Tell your guildmates to add their profile and have it linked to your guild listing. More options, such as adding more than one character, will be added later.

Add a Character or Browse.

Any ideas? Send them to us!.

New Map Feature
Posted by Draugen at 09:05 PST
A new map feature is coming soon...
Having trouble getting lost? Too proud to stop and ask for directions? Well, have no worries as a map of Istaria is just about ready to help solve all of these issues. Listening to the suggestions and wishes of players, the new map window is full of numerous features!

The following are just some of the many things that you will be able to accomplish!

High detail maps that show every terrain bump and landmark

Zoom out to see the entire continent or zoom in to see the details of a town. All with the flick of the mouse wheel.

Completely layer based.Show only the details you want to see, hide the rest.

Add your own personal map markers to any spot in the world with your own custom labels. There is also a search feature to find these labels later if you get too many.

Resize the map to fullscreen to examine everything in detail or size it very small and leave it open all the time as a guide.

Show group members with real time position tracking.Tool-tips are available for everyone to easily find out who they are.

Keep the map centered on yourself as you move through the world or detach it to pan the viewport anywhere you want.

Cycle through group members quick and easily.Never lose track of your group members again.

Players can create their own custom maps and distribute them freely on the internet.New maps are installed by simply copying in the new map folder.

Please keep in mind that this is only the initial list of the map window’s capabilities. We will be monitoring player feedback and will be open to suggestions on features to help improve it.

New Islands Uncovered
Posted by Draugen at 09:01 PST
News of new islands on Istaria.com...
Players on Energy, soon followed by those on Dawn and Earth, have uncovered travel gates to new islands by completing several collapsed caves located throughout the landscape.

Guarded by several undead Satyrs, these strange caves immediately intrigued players. It would seem that curiosity got the best of them as work began to unearth the mysteries located within. Besieged at all times by the Withered Aegis and an enslaved Satyr army whose goal is seemingly to halt all repair work, the players soldiered on and eventually triumphed!

Congratulations to these three shards for their excellent work and community effort that was involved in the completion of these caves. However, their work appears far from done! The islands that were unlocked seem to pose more questions then they answer--and a considerable force none too pleased with new arrivals on their land.

Community Bridge Completed
Posted by Draugen at 08:57 PST
News on Istaria.com...
Congratulations to the players of Twilight for being the first North American shard to complete the construction of the bridge leading to one of the southern islands!

After many hours of hard work and a rather late night, the players of Twilight gathered together and laid the last item into the bridge across to the southern island! Now, all the players on Twilight have access to the towns of Lerena, Grayling and Dikaina.

Congratulations to the players of Twilight for being the first North American shard to complete this task as a community.

Who will be the first to complete some of the other community projects? There are reports that there are some mysterious mines across the landscape that are in need of repairs, but what could lie inside...?

State of the Game by Steve Snow
Posted by Rewena at 18:49 PST
Taken directly from the Offical Site:

> Horizons Producer Steve Snow communicates the latest happenings in the world of Istaria in the first State of the Game announcement.

State of the Game

It’s been brought to our attention, by very many customers and potential customers, that we need to start letting everyone know where we are going with Horizons in a much more public format than we have used in the past.

Horizons has been out for one month and things are progressing well. The launch has been fairly smooth. While we had a slightly rocky start for a small portion of our customers we want to thank everyone for seeing out those few hours of downtime during the first week. I also want to point out that we have solved all of the account creation issues that a few hundred potential customers experienced.

The current development team focus is the following:

Things that relate to Bi-peds:

There have been a lot of rumors regarding the ability for Tradespeople to swap or adjust the visual look of the items that they create so I’ll just clarify everything right now. We are indeed working on a system that will allow Blacksmiths and Blacksmith prestige schools to visually customize the in game items they can create. This system will allow you to choose particular blades for weapons or tool heads for smithing hammers and so forth. Provided this goes we may or may not look to do something similar for Outfitters. But that isn’t something we are planning on right now. Don’t expect to see this for some time because we still have a few things to sort out with the current implementation of it.

Things that relate to Dragons:

We are finalization the last legs of making sure that everything is in full functional working order for Juvenile Dragons transitions to Adult Dragons. So don’t be surprised if you see Developer Adult dragons flying overhead on Blight over the next month or two.

Things that relate to everyone:

We are doing constant evaluations of the gameplay balance. I won’t try and highlight this from now on because we will always be reading feedback and adjusting gameplay as we move forward. The design team is drilling into a lot of the schools in the game and making sure they fit with the overall vision that they have for Horizons. We really appreciate everyone’s feedback regarding what they consider to be overpowered and underpowered. Rest assured that even though we are not posting on the boards that does not mean we are not reading them. It is important to highlight that Gale is doing an excellent job of forwarding the negative and positive feedback from the message boards back into the development team.

One of the things that everyone can look forward to is the Map Window, which will be available later this month. It will come in two stages. The first will be a limited non-optional patch version that we will patch out though the updater. We will then have an Atlas augmentation for the map window, which will be an optional download day one. But over time we will patch it out in stages until everyone has it. This is to keep all the 56k users from getting swamped right out of the gate. The total size for the Atlas and the map window will be 30 megs. Don’t worry though, the initial patch version for the map window will only weigh in at 11 to 12 Megs.

More details on the map window are that the initial version will let you pinpoint your location graphically. The Atlas augmentation is embedded in the map window, provided you have downloaded it, and will let you zoom in on a higher detail for terrain.

By popular demand we are going to bring a Character Preview Window right to your Equipment Window. This will display a 3D render of your character, which will allow you to see what your character looks like while wearing your new gear. We will provide you with more information, as we get closer to this.

Once we complete the dragon transition we will implement a more universal inventory slot for both Bi-peds and Dragons. This should help alleviate some of the frustrations with a few of the quest and event rewards.

People are starting to become more aware of the Satyrs and I want to point out that you guys are getting really close to figuring out the puzzle. We really enjoy reading everyone’s speculation about what’s currently going on with the recent events. I hope that with the mystery in “A New Enemy Emerges?” we see even more speculation and banter on the boards.

In closing I want to thank everyone for taking the time to give us feedback regarding Horizons both positive and negative. While we might not respond we are indeed listening. It is our plan to continue to grow Horizons in a direction that provides a solid and enjoyable gameplay experience for our customers and potential customers.

Kind Regards,

Steve Snow
Producer

Horizons Support Still Sucks
Posted by Draugen at 22:20 PST
It's been two weeks and I haven't gotten any help from Tech Support. Seeing this posted recently...
Outstanding customer service is a top priority for Artifact Entertainment. We are committed to making sure that our consumers are kept well informed of any existing problems that may interfere with their game play experience.

...inspired me to write this post of my own. They really shouldn't say that. That makes everything else they do sound really bad. I don't think everything else is bad, but their customer service is. I want to continue playing, but if they won't help, it's too much trouble. Trial time is running short.

Have you had a bad experience with support (don't feel bad, you aren't the only one)? Or a good one? Leave a comment about it.

Horizons Radio
Posted by Draugen at 11:15 PST
Apparently there is a Horizons internet radio...
"Music you can craft & fight to!" Horizons Radio is live 24/7 internet station dedicated to everything Horizons with lots of music and giveaways/contests to win cool prizes like (Plots of Land, Free Horizons account, and much much more.)
(HighBand) http://66.98.188.94:8000/listen.pls
(LowBand) http://66.98.188.94:8010/listen.pls"
Personally I think it's terrible music for Horizons! Sorry guys, but so far all I've heard is Jamaican Rap. All I have to say, is No. Unless you like that brand of music, don't ruin your fantasy experience hoping to get prizes. I'm not knocking the music, but it's not fantasy related at all.

For fantasy music, try Radio Rivendell (http://129.177.94.156:8000)

Have any favourite stations? Share it in the forums.

Forum Problem
Posted by Draugen at 18:14 PST
There might be a problem with not being able to post on the Forums. It's not always easy to tell on this server. It might be fixed now, but that is also hard to tell on this server. Grr. It will be up soon, hopefully.

In the meantime, pick a random item from your inventory, write down its info, and send it to us. We're building an item database. That would help out a lot. Even better, send a picture. Of the small icon or with it equipped. Either way.

Support Hoax
Posted by Draugen at 14:29 PST
Although the fake site appears to be down now, there was a site claiming to be Horizons Tech Support. The official news was...
Artifact Entertainment has no affiliation with the website http://www.istaria.suppport.com/.

If you need to contact Customer Service with a Horizons related issue, please visit our official support site: https://support.istaria.com/

This gives me an opportunity to say something irrational. Maybe this wouldn't happen if they actually gave tech support. I'm not the only one who tech support hasn't been helping or giving feedback to. Wake up guys! At the very least saying, "That's a common problem. We're working on it.", is better than nothing. Assuming they are working on it, which no one has said.

Of the World and Trades
Posted by Draugen at 14:55 PST
A Skills & Trades section has been added to Port of Horizons, and a new World Atlas has also been started. The old one will continue to be available.

Both sections are in their infancy stages, much like Horizons. If you have any useful information to add send it in!
