Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) said he is "confident" that the state will prevail in a lawsuit against his new sanctuary city policy brought the city governments.
Paxton thanked U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions for allowing the Justice Department to help Texas in the case.
"After eight years of having the department of justice fighting us on issues like this, for the first time we have a department of justice that's actually looking at the law and stepping in to add credibility to our case," he said.
Paxton said he previously went to court to have a judge analyze the Constitutionality of the bill before it was passed.
He added that there is a lot of "misinformation" circulating about the bill, with some groups claiming it will hurt crime victims who happen to be illegal immigrants.
"When people understand what's in the bill, pretty much it's overwhelmingly supported in Texas," Paxton said.
