South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott (R) remembered the victims of the Mother Emanuel A.M.E. Church shooting that occurred two years ago Saturday.

Dylann Roof, 23, was sentenced to death earlier this year for carrying out the attack on nine black churchgoers during a Bible study in Charleston.

He tweeted the names of the nine victims, along with the message:

The killer wanted a race war.

The families of the Emanuel 9 responded with love and righteousness.

They showed us we are better together.

Roof was apprehended a few days after the shooting, in Shelby, N.C., after a woman recognized his vehicle.
