On "Special Report" tonight, Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) praised President Donald Trump for cancelling former President Barack Obama's “one-sided deal” with Cuba.
He said the move, which will restrict individual travel to the island, crack down on the flow of U.S. cash to the Cuban military and demand key reforms in Havana, is a sign that the Trump administration will stand with the Cuban people, not Castro regime.
He argued that Obama gave concessions to the Castro regime without getting anything in return, while Trump will insist on a better deal between the two nations.
"Our partners are not the Cuban regime. Our partners have to be the Cuban people," Diaz-Balart said, calling this a "win-win" for both America and the Cuban people.
He explained that Trump affirmed that he will not lift sanctions until the regime releases all political prisoners and schedules free and internationally supervised elections.
"Is that too much to ask for?" Diaz-Balart asked. "Today, President Trump made it very clear that he stands with the Cuban people, and not with the oppressors that have, again, been repressing that country for now close to 60 years."
