Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) announced on Thursday he was postponing a town hall scheduled for Saturday as a result of the attack this week on a Republican congressional baseball practice.
Perry cited security concerns after Republican lawmakers were fired upon Wednesday, leaving House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) and several others injured.
Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX) said on "Your World" that he understands Perry's decision, because the left's rhetorical attacks on President Trump and Republicans have now turned into violent action.
"What's been happening is this hate-mongering and the politics of personal destruction," DeLay said. "The Democrats' whole political strategy is called 'resistance.' That in itself defines for you where they're taking all this."
He pointed to violent protests at college campuses across the country, not to mention a character in the likeness of Trump being murdered, Kathy Griffin's infamous mock Trump beheading photo shoot, and Madonna's statement that she has "thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House."
"All these kinds of things are building up an energy that we have to be concerned with," DeLay said.
