Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) ripped the New York Times for a "sickening" editorial which falsely blamed her for inciting the shooting of Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-AZ) in 2011.
The opinion piece put forth the since-debunked claim that a map sent to supporters by Palin's PAC had influenced the shooter. The map listed Democrats to "target" in the 2010 midterm elections for supporting ObamaCare.
The Times later issued a correction: "An earlier version of this editorial incorrectly stated that a link existed between political incitement and the 2011 shooting of Representative Gabby Giffords. In fact, no such link was established."
Palin wrote on Facebook, "I'd hoped the media had collectively matured since the last attack on a Representative when media coverage spewed blatant lies about who was to blame. There's been no improvement. The NYT has gotten worse."
Earlier, Michelle Malkin called out the Times for reviving the erroneous claim. She pointed out that investigators found shooter Jared Loughner was mentally ill and fixated on Giffords going back to 2007.
