Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas) thanked Capitol Police for their bravery and recounted the shooting that critically injured his colleague, Rep Steve Scalise (R-La.).

"The thin blue line held today," Williams, who was grounding balls near first and second base at the time of the shooting, said.

He thanked the officers, Special Agents Crystal Greiner and David Bailey.

Williams said they showed "what's right with America" after shooter James Hodgkinson showed "what's wrong with America."

"Americans should be proud this is the kind of country that still produces these kinds of heroes," he said of the officers.

Williams said he was injured after he ran from the sound of gunfire and dove into the first base dugout "like... into a pool with no water."

He recounted his colleague Rep. Trent Kelly (R-Miss.) likely being the first person shot at before Scalise was hit in the hip.

Williams said his colleagues heroically tended to injured players, which included his aide Zach Barth.

Willliams said Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) whipped off his belt and used it as a tourniquet to stem the bleeding from Barth's injured leg.

Meanwhile, Rep. Chuck Fleishmann (R-Tenn.) called 911.

He said that he agreed with team captains Rep. Mike Doyle (D-Pa.) and Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) that the Congressional charity baseball game must go on as scheduled on Thursday.

If they cancelled the game, Williams said it would let the people like Hodgkinson, who want to destroy America, win.
