While Hillary Clinton was being investigated by the FBI for her private email server, many Democrats and members of the mainstream media had nothing but contempt for former FBI Director James Comey.
Following Comey's testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee on his meetings with President Trump and the FBI's Russia probe, however, they are now relying on Comey's credibility and judgement to help make their case against Trump.
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), the ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee, said it was "stunning" to hear a former FBI director suggest he didn't trust the president.
Rep. Eric Swawell (D-CA) said that Comey's testimony supports the idea that Trump tried to have Comey shut down the investigation into former national security advisor Michael Flynn.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Comey's "resolute testimony" thoroughly detailed Trump's "contempt for justice."
Meantime, CNN host Jake Tapper said the hearing is proof that Comey thinks Trump is a "liar," which is particularly damning coming from a former FBI director.
It's a far cry from how many Democrats and members of the press spoke about Comey after his announcement — just days before November’s election — that he had resumed a federal inquiry into whether Clinton mishandled classified information through her use of a private email server.
The New York Times suggested this about-face on Comey can be summed up by an old saying: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."
