Mike Huckabee said accused government leakers like Reality Winner committed "treason and dishonesty" against their own country.
Winner is accused of leaking documents pertaining to Russian hack attempts against voting software companies.
Her lawyer said she is a victim of President Trump's crackdown on leakers and that people should take a look at what the documents contain.
"People who leak information and have sworn [not to] have an obligation not to do it," Huckabee said.
Commentator Rush Limbaugh said President Obama knew about the alleged leak before he made a December 2016 statement dismissing possible leaks.
"This young lady was a Bernie supporter who hates Donald Trump and gave out information she took illegally," Huckabee said.
Leakers like Winner committed "treason and dishonesty against their own government," he said.
