On Friday, Jan. 27, CBC Montreal's Sabrina Marandola joined weather forecasters from across Montreal at General Vanier Elementary School in St. Léonard at a press conference announcing the expansion of the S.T.E.A.M. project.

S.T.E.A.M., which stands for science, technology, engineering, arts and math, is a new approach to teaching used by the EMSB. The method aims to make what students learn in class more concrete by showing real life applications.

For the 2016-17 academic year, two elementary schools - General Vanier in St. Léonard and Pierre Elliott Trudeau in Rosemount - have been successfully piloting the program. EMSB Chairman Angela Mancini has announced that at least a dozen schools want to bring S.T.E.A.M. into their buildings as early as next year.

On hand to help the EMSB announce their plans to expand the successful pilot project were a number of people who use science and arts together in every day life. In addition to Marandola, former astronaut and present-day Federal Minister of Transport Marc Garneau was present, along with weather forecasters from CTV, Global TV, CJAD, Meteomedia and Breakfast TV.
