Where we are

A radically changing media environment; recent, significant revenue shortfalls of $130 million; and $390 million dollars in budget reductions and reallocations absorbed since 2009, have combined to bring Canada’s public broadcaster to a pivotal moment in time.

Our financial challenge comes in two parts. First, we had to act decisively to balance the 2014-2015 budget. Second, we must position the public broadcaster for the future by developing a strategic framework that will not only identify priorities, but find the means to invest in them.

"As we made our choices to balance Budget 2014-2015, we had to accelerate the work already started for our next strategic plan that will carry us to 2020. We had to make sure that the measures announced today weren't made in a vacuum, and weren't jeopardizing future strategic choices by reacting to immediate needs."
