Police are warning people not to take the lead of an in-line skater in Mississauga caught on camera catching a ride on the back of a truck.

The video, captured by Mississauga resident Kevin Taylor on his dashboard camera, shows what appears to be a male on in-line skates hanging on to the back of a truck tractor before letting go and gradually losing speed on the roadway.

Taylor told CBC Toronto that he was shocked to look up and see the person clinging to the back of a truck, and remembers thinking "if he hits a pothole or even a bump, he's in trouble."

"I was doing about 64 km an hour and the truck was going at the same speed as me," he said.

Const. Mark Fischer of Peel Regional Police called the stunt "extremely dangerous."

"There's so many different things that could happen that could result in him going under the wheels of the truck or being struck by another vehicle," he said.

The incident took place in March on Cawthra Road near Burnhamthorpe Road East.

Fischer said that anyone caught by police holding onto the back of vehicles in this way could be charged under the Highway Traffic Act and face a $50 fine.

Though Peel police will not be investigating this particular incident, he encourages anyone who sees a similar thing happen to call police and report them.
